Rare double for Egypt Photo 1 | 2 | 3 | 4


1st May, Cairo: Newly-crowned Sinai International Open champion, Ayman Hashem scored a rare double for Egypt after he defeated Mahmoud Atef in an all-lefty and all-Egyptian final to win the ABF Tour Egypt 2013 on Wednesday.

Ayman was simply too good for challenger, Mahmoud winning the title with a 201-145 victory over his opponent to cap off a superb week and became the first Egyptian to win an ABF Tour title.

Mahmoud started the match with a strike but made two huge mistake by missing two consecutive single pins in his next two frames as Ayman spared his first two frames and then rolled a double in the third and fourth frames.

With pressure mounting on both title contenders in this crucial match, none could string together as much strikes as they had during the semi-final matches. Ayman eventually prevailed to end with 201 while Mahmoud had two additional open frames to go down with 145.


Ayman, 26 who work as an office boy in the day and a librarian in the evening in Cairo, sailed past Khaled Al Doseri of Qatar in the first all-lefty semi-finals, 211-182 while Mahmoud also had an easy victory over fellow team-mate, Ahmed Abdel Hamid 207-169 in the other all-Egyptian semi.

The champion took out another lefty, Fahad Al Rageeb of Kuwait, 241-205 in Round 2 and another lefty team-mate, Eslam Ead in a thrilling 249-247 Round 1 match.

The first runner-up, Mahmoud edged Jassim Darwish of Kuwait, 235-226 in Round 2 to reach the semi-finals and second seed, Sithiphol Kunaksorn of Thailand, 211-193 in the first round.

Khaled registered the highest game of the tournament when the he beat fourth seed, Basel Al Anzi of Kuwait, 277-182 in Round 1. The Qatari lefty was also had an impressive victory over Mahdi Assad of Bahrain with a 266-249 win in Round 2.

General Ahmed Nasr, President of the Egyptian Bowling Federation and Mr Farouk Haridi, ABF Exco Member, gave away the champion's trophy to Ayman.

The next leg will be the ABF Tour Hong Kong on June 12 followed by the ABF Tour Macau on June 20. Bowlers will earn ranking points from each of the legs they contest and the top 16 men and top 16 women at the end of the final leg, will qualify for the Tournament of Champions.
