Second tour title for Qatari Photo 1 | 2 | 3 | 4


18th March, Kuwait: Mansour Al Awami of Qatar won his second career tour title after an easy victory over Kuwaiti, Mohannad Ibrahim 246-160 in the final of the ABF Tour Kuwait 2013 leg at Cozmo Bowling Centre on Monday.

Both title contenders had a double in their opening two frames and whilst Mansour spared in the third and rolled another strike in the fourth frame, Mohannad opened his third frame.

The Kuwaiti struck in the fourth and spared in the fifth but the Qatari encountered a split in the fifth frame to draw level at the halfway mark. Mansour struck his next two frames as Mohannad struck once and spared the other.

When Mansour added another double strike in frames eighth and ninth, his opponent had back-to-back splits which decided the outcome of the tie. Mansour struck twice again in the tenth and bonus frame to romp home an emphatic victory, 246-160 over Mohannad.


The 2010 Egypt leg champion had earlier sailed past 2012 ABF Tour ranking leader, Ryan Laisang of Indonesia, 268-190 in the second semi-final match while Mohannad easily ousted Rakan Al Amiri, 237-198 in the all-Kuwaiti first semi.

Mansour edged ABF Tour TOC winner, Yannaphon Larpapharat of Thailand, 215-194 in the opening round and another Thai, Annop Arromsaranon, 215-202 in Round 2 quarter-finals to advance to the semi.

Mohannad ousted third-seed, Yousif Falah of Bahrain, 246-204 in Round 1 and was equally impressive when he breezed through to the semi with victory over compatriot, Mohammed Al Ragebah, 236-153 in the second round.

Top seed, Shaker Al Hassan and 2012 ABF Saudi leg champion crashed out in Round 1 to Annop while second seed, Khaled Al Dubyyan lost to Hong Kong's Rickle Kam, 245-225 also in the first round.

Sheikh Talal Al-Sabah, President of Asian Bowling Federation presented the trophy to the champion. This year's ABF Tour consist of 10 legs. Bahrain and Kuwait were the first two of five legs in the Middle East.

The next stop is the Thailand leg on April 23, the first of five legs in East and South East Asia which have women division while those in the Middle East only feature the men.

Bowlers will earn ranking points from each of the legs they contest and the top 16 men and top 16 women at the end of the final leg, will qualify for the Tournament of Champions.
