The 18th Asian Games will be held in Palembang, Indonesia, from August 18 - 27, 2018 at Jakabaring Bowling Centre, Jakabaring Sports Centre. This will be the second time the Games will be held in the Indonesia. The host city was selected as after Vietnam withdrew in 2014.

The first Asian Games were held in Delhi, India, 4 - 11 March, 1951. With 491 participants from 11 National Olympics Committees, the first Asian Games were officially opened by President Rajendra Prasa at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium, featuring 6 sports: athletics, aquatics (swimming, diving, and water polo), basketball, cycling (road cycling and track cycling), football, and weightlifting. A total of 169 medals were awarded.

After having hosted the SEA Games in 2011, ASEAN University Games, the Islamic Solidarity Games, Palembang is ready to host the Asian Games once again in 2018.

With the experience, Palembang promises to serve a fabulous Asian Games in 2018. Palembang not only has the best arenas in South East Asian, but also has support infrastructure, such as international airport, hotels, and railroad. Palembang build a skybridge to connect Palembang's Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport with a light rail transit (LRT) terminal that will take passengers to Jakabaring.

Palembang has 20 hotels and at least eight new hotels are being built this year. In addition to the 3,000 rooms available now, about 7,000 to 10,000 more hotel rooms will accommodate many more sports ambassador during the games.

Jakabaring Sriwijaya Stadium will soon be renovated in preparation to host the Asian Games in 2018. Some improvements will be made including seats repair, roof repair, stands repair, and improved access to the stadium.

Currently, Jakabaring Sriwijaya Stadium, which is the home of SFC, the club pride Society of South Sumatra, only has a capacity of 23,819 seats. After the repairs, GSJ will have a capacity of 40,000 spectator seats.

In addition to increasing the number of spectator seats, the Government of South Sumatra Province will also make improvements to the Tribune North and South. In both these stands, roof will be erected to protect the spectators from the heat and rain. The North Tribune will also be given a direct access to the top of the stands.
