14th January, Hong Kong: Reigning team champion, Korea bounced back from a lackluster performance in the Trios event yesterday to lead the Women's Team of 5 of the 26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships after the first block on Saturday.
Singapore's Daphne Tan, Jazreel Tan, Shayna Ng, New Hui Fen and two gold medallist, Cherie Tan got off the block with a cracking 1175 in their opening game to take the early lead. China's Shi Ailin, Peng Rui, Wang Xinlin, Yang Liyan and Zhang Yuhong trailed in second with 1167.
Singles silver medallist, Natasha Roslan led her Malaysian team-mates, Esther Cheah, Gillian Lim, Sin Li Jane and debutant, Puteri Nurul Dini to take up third with 1166. Korea's Baek Seungja, Yang Sujin, Hwang Yeonju, Kim Jinju and Jung Dawun was fourth with 1165.
The Korean women then blazed the lanes with a stunning 1311 in their second game to open up a commanding lead of 128 pins margin. Singapore slipped to second spot despite another respectable 1173 while Malaysia dropped down to third with 1148. The leader ended the first block with a superb 1252 in the third game to lead the pack with 3728 and a 163 pins gap.
