1st September, Petaling Jaya: Guest of Honour, YBhg Dato Sri Megat Shahriman Bin Dato Zaharudin, President of Paralympic Council of Malaysia, declared opened the 2nd Asian Para Tenpin Bowling Championship at Sunway Megalanes on Monday.

Present alongside the guest of honour were YBhg Dao' Mohammed Najeeb Abdullah, President of Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress, YBhg First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman Nair, Secretary General of Paralympic Council of Malaysia and YBhg Tan Sri Sato' Seri Mohamad Noor Abdul Rahman, President of Asian Petanque.

Also present were Dr Danny Santos, Tournament Director, Mr Maradona Chok, Secretary General of MTBC and Mr Steven Teng, MTBC Council Member and Host Tournament Co-Ordinator, representatives of Malaysian National Sports Council, sponsors and partners.

Ms Michelle Wong, MTBC Council Member and emcee kicked off the ceremony by welcoming all present and introduced the guest of honour and distinguished guests. She then announced the march past of the ten participating countries and territories.

YBhg Dato Najeeb Abdullah, in his welcome speech, thanked the ten member federations of the Asian Paralympic Federation for participating in this second edition of the Asian Para Tenpin Bowling Championship, fresh from a highly successful hosting of the 22nd Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championship held last week.

In the guest of honour's speech, YBhg Dato Seri Megat Shahriman gave an inspiring speech to all participants and extended his best wishes in their quest for glory and winning honours for their countries. He also hoped that they will take home fond memories of their stay in Malaysia.

The guest of honour also took time to meet and greet the teams individually and also assembled with the team officials, distinguished guests for a group photograph.

YBhg Dato' Mohammed Najeeb Abdullah presented a souvenir book highlighting the 50-years of Malaysian Tenpin Bowling successes to the guest of honour and to the Secretary General of Paralympic Council of Malaysia.

Earlier in the day, the teams went through with their official practice sessions divided into two squads. Competition will kick off tomorrow, September 2 and 3 with the Singles event for all the categories. The Doubles will be contested on September 2 and 3.

The final event, the Trios will be held on September 4 and concluding on September 5. This will be followed by a Victory Banquet to be held at the official hotel at 7.30pm.
