Kuching, Jeju advances as topseeds

28th October, Shah Alam: The first Kuching pair of Wagiman Kassim and Robert Lu Nam Min advanced to the Senior Men Doubles medal rounds of the 36th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship as topseed while Jeju's second pair of Kim Ji-Myoung and Yang Young-Ja finished first in the Senior Women division.

Kassim and Lu overtook Squad A leader of Isham Md Razali and Adnan Osman of Shah Alam A1 with 1554 to lead the combined Senior Men Doubles. The second Petaling Jaya pair of Y.H. Ng and Darren Lau, who finished second to Kuching with 1512, claimed second overall to advance to the medal rounds as second-seed.

Isham and Adnan settled for third spot with with 1474 while Shah Alam B1 pair of Lee Wooi Jin and Mohd Ahkuan Sagimin clinched the fourth and final medal round spot with 1473. Shazally B Mohd Khamis and Mohd Nor B Mahmud of Kuala Lumpur missed the cut by 18 pins in fifth.

Kuching will face fourth-seed, Shah Alam B2 in the best-of-3 Baker's Format first semi-final match and Petaling Jaya will meet third-seed, Shah Alam A1 in the other semi. The winners will proceed to the title match while the losers will be awarded a bronze medal each.


Senior Men Doubles top 4, Petaling Jaya 2, Kuching 2, Shah Alam A1 and Shah Alam B2

Jeju's Kim Ji-Myoung and Yang Young-Ja overhauled Squad A leader, Mastura Binti Mahmud and Nur Hashilah Binti Hasim of Kuala Lumpur with 1450 to advance to the medal rounds as top-seed. Kuala Lumpur settled for second position overall with 1442.

Maggie Yeung and May Hui of Kowloon, who finished second to the Korean pair, took third spot with 1436. Petaling Jaya's pair of Poziah Atan and Shirley Burnett secured the fourth and final medal round spot with 1378. Jeju will square off with Petaling Jaya in the best-of-3 Baker's Format first semi-final match.

Kuala Lumpur and Kowloon will meet in the other semi-final match. The winners will proceed to the title match while the losers will be awarded a bronze medal each. The Doubles medal rounds will be held tomorrow at 9.00 am local time.
