Korea sweeps Youth U21 titles

18th December, Seberang Prai: Korean National Sports University students, Kim Seong Tak and Kim Bo Ah swept the MILO Youth Boys U21 and MILO Youth Girls U21 titles of the 50th Penang Pesta International Open Bowling Championships at Megamall, Prai.

Yang Dang Jun of Cheong Nam Technology University, got off the block brilliantly with 266 in his opening game to lead Aiden Lim Zen Yao of ABCA, Malaysia in second by 22 pins and Singapore's Aviel Chua of Xproshop in third, further two pins away in third.

Lim added a superb 247 in his second game to move into the lead as Chua improved to second while Yang stumbled to a poor 169 to slip down the field. But Yang recovered with 258 in the third game to regain the lead ahead of Chua still in second.

Chua fired a stunning 279 to move into the lead as Yang suffered another poor 162 to slip behind the Singaporean. Chua continued to lead the pack despite managing only 187 at the halfway mark. Son Han Geol of Korea National Sports University (KNSU) took over second spot, 22 pins behind Chua.


Top 3 winners, Ryou Ho Jin, Kim Seong Tak and Ethan Damien Goh

Son added 233 in the sixth game to become the new leader. Another KNSU student, Ryou Ho Jin joined his team-mate, Son in second, just six pins adrift as Chua had two low games to slip out of contention. Son had nine pins lead over another team-mate, Kim Seong Tak heading to the final game.

But Son managed 197 while Kim fired a superb 253 to snatch victory with 1803. Ryou also downed 253 to clinch second position with 1796. Ethan Damien Goh stormed home with 248, 224 and 235 in his last three games to clinch third spot with 1784.

Jang Tae Joon of KNSU and Son rounded out the top 5 with 1772 and 1756 respectively. Kim pocketed RM5,000 as champion with Ryou and Goh earning RM2,500 and RM1,000 for finishing second and third positions respectively.

Meanwhile, KNSU almost swept the top positions in the MILO Youth Girls U21 finals but was denied by Malaysia's Nur Aleeyah Syakirah from Sabah. Nur Aleeyah started off well taking the lead with an opening game of 234. 2023 Malaysian Open champion, Lavina Kho Jia Jie of Sarawak, Malaysia trailed in second.

Kim Bo Ah, who started off with 229, added a splendid 249 to immediately take over the running. Kim led from them on to win the title with 1730 total. Nur Aleeyah, who had fought with compatriot, Nurul Anis Nabila and Paek Yedam of Deok Jeong High School, Korea for second spot, ended in second with 1718.

KNSU's Kim Chae Yeon too third spot with 1638 followed by Nurul Anis and Paek completed the top 5 with 1635 and 1619 respectively. The champion, Kim won RM3,050 while Nur Aleeyah took home RM2,500 and Kim Chae Yeon earned RM1,000.

Next finals will be the Men's and Women's Senior Masters Finals which will be contested later today. The Women's Grade A and Women's Grade A Masters Finals will be staged this evening. The qualifying rounds for the Mixed Graded Division will end Late tonight.


Top 3 winners, Nur Aleeyah Syakirah, Kim Bo Ah and Paek Yedam

The qualifying rounds for the Masters Mixed Open division will be contested over two blocks of six games each on December 19 and 20. The Top 40 with the highest total will qualify for the finals which will be held on December 21.
