American takes over lead after second block

19th November, Palembang: 2017 World Championships Trios gold medallist, Kelly Kulick of USA took over the lead of the Women's leaderboard after completing the second block of preliminaries at the 55th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup on Tuesday.

Kulick, a Team USA member for over 15 years and second in the first block yesterday, got off the second block with 229 to move ahead of overnight leader, Natasha Roslan of Malaysia by 24 pins. But the Malaysian bounced back with 234 in the eighth game to return to the top of the field after the American managed 201.

Roslan could not maintain a fast pace after knocking down 193 allowing Kulick to regain the lead after the ninth game. Kulick, who also won the Singles gold medal at the 2017 World Games, up her pace with 237 and 247 in her next two games to build up a massive lead of 87 pins.

The Malaysian was unable to roll strong games and stayed in second. Germany's Nadine Geissler and two-time champion, Aumi Guerra of Dominican Republic shared the high game of the day with 267. Kulick completed the second block with 1317 for a 12-game total of 2610 to lead the field of 61 players.

Roslan settled for second position with 2543 on a lower 6-games series of 1237 compared to her first block of 1306. Guerra took third spot with 2493 followed by Jeon Eunhee of Korea in fourth with 2482. Russia's Maria Koshel rounded out the top five with 2465 ahead of Geissler in sixth with 2461. Stephanie Martins of Brazil, who was third in the first block, dropped to seventh. Netherland's Lindsey Paling, Australia's Rebecca Whiting and Belgium's Catherine Durieux completed the top 10.

The cut at 24th position went to Edith Quintanilla of El Salvador with 2256, averaging 188. The men will take to the lanes at 14:00 hrs local time for their second block while the women will resume their qualifying rounds with the third block tomorrow afternoon.
