Malaysian youth snatches second squad

10th April, Taoyuan: Malaysian youth, Muhammad Adam Darwish snatched top spot of Squad B of Block 1 qualifying rounds of the 1st Formosa International Classic 2024 and made top 3 overseas qualifiers in the Open division.

Mohd Syafiq of Team Junior Keglers, Malaysia set the pace of the second squad with 247 to lead two Taiwanese, Chang Rong Syuan and Hsieh Song Yu by 4 and 5 pins. Three bowlers, Muhammad Hazim Bin Alihanafiah of Dotmod, Malaysia, Chang Chih Lin of Chinese Taipei and Henry Hui of Confianza, Hong Kong all posted 237 to close.

Musayyar Bin Khalid of Dotmod, Malaysia, who shot 220 in his opening game, added a scintillating 278 in the second game to take over the running. Syafiq slipped down to second despite rolling a superb game of 226. Two-time Macao-China Open champion, Tomoyuki Sasaki of Japan also posted a big game of 260 to take up third.

Musayyar and Sasaki continued to pace each other with 257 and 244 in the third game to remain in first and second. Tsai Wen Bin of Chinese Taipei bowled consistently with 222, 226 and 228 to move up to third while the rest of the early pace-setters faded away.


Muhammad Adam Darwish snatching Squad B and moving into the Top 3 overseas qualifiers in the Open division

The Japanese added a stronger 258 in his fourth game to narrow the gap from 58 to just 5 pins as the Malaysian continued to lead despite a fourth game of 203. Both suffered low game in the fifth. Sasaki took over the lead with 179 while Musayyar dropped to second with 174.

Neither could end well Sasaki managing only 199 and Musayyar 191. Muhammad Adam Darwish stormed home with 235 to snatch to top with 1343. Sasaki finished second with 1333 and Musayyar third with 1323. Muhammad Hazim Bin Alihanafiah of Megalanes, Malaysia took fourth spot with 1310.

Adam Darwish's efforts put the youngster third in the Top 3 overseas qualifiers of the Open division. Squad A leader, Ernest Kwok and Hon Nga Pok remained first and second with 1375 and 1360 respectively. Lu Kun Yi and Li Ying Chi of Chinese Taipei, who finished first and second in Squad C, have taken the top 2 spots in the Top 3 local qualifiers with 1365 and 1364.

Lee Cheng En, who led before Squad C, slipped down to third with 1299. Sasaki missed the Top 6 positions by 10 pins to head the remaining 45 qualifiers for Round 1 finals. The last squad of the day will contest their first block at 7:30pm local time.
