Malaysians rule Women's Singles qualifying

8th January, Hong Kong, China: Malaysia's Sin Li Jane, Natasha Roslan and Siti Safiyah Amirah won the Women's Singles qualifying rounds of Groups D and C of the 2025 IBF World Cup while a third Malaysian, Siti Safiyah Amirah won Group A with 36 points.

The Women's Singles qualifying rounds ended with Malaysians dominating by winning three of the four groups. 2024 PWBA Bowler of the Year, Sin Li Jane displayed her prowess by winning all her six matches in the second block to add to her five wins in the first block for a total of 33 points and 2723 pinfalls.

Overnight leader, Victoria Johansson of Sweden settled for second with 26 points on a 2742 total pinfalls. USA's Jillian Martin, Philippines' Grace Gella, Australia's Emily Hart, China's Xu Lan, New Zealand's Christine Rota and Peru's Sophie Oshihiro made the cut for the Top 32 knockout rounds in third to eighth respectively.

Natasha Roslan won Group C with 30 points ahead of Singapore's Bernice Lim in second with 27 points and 2604 total pinfalls. Germany's Birgit Noreiks, New Zeland's Sarah Young, 2016 champion and Sweden's Jenny Wegner, Philippines' Danielle Lazo advanced with 24 points each.


Women's Groups D and C winners, Sin Li Jane and Natasha Roslan of Malaysia

2002 champion, Shannon Pluhowsky (232) of USA and Macau's Hui Tong (222) won a four-way tie-breaker against China's Zhang Yu Hong (213) and 2019 champion, Bec Whiting (188) of Australia to take up the last two spots in this group for the Round of 32.

Malaysia's Siti Safiyah Amirah cruised into the Round of 32 with the highest point tally of 36, winning all six matches today and six matches in the first block of the Women's Group A. USA's Lauren Russo finished second with 31 points and Philippines' Marie Alexis Sy took third spot with 25 points.

Germany's Lea Degenhardt, China's Peng Rui, Sweden's Anna Andersson, Singapore's Daphne Tan and Peru's Maria Belleza all made the cut with 21 points a piece while Australia's Rebekah Martin missed by two points in ninth position.

USA's Bryanna Cote and Australia's Samantha Clifton tied top spot in Group B with 30 points each. Sweden's Nora Johansson and China's Yang Li Yan shared third spot with 27 points each. Also making the cut were Malaysia's Gillian Lim, Denmark's Cecilie Dam and Germany's Janin Ribguth, all amassing 24 points each.

Peru's Ariana Komt (197) won the three-way one game tie-breaker to take the final eighth position by defeating Macau's Veronica Dias De Souza (186) and 2017 champion, Krizziah Macatula (156) of Philippines.


Siti Safiyah winning Group A, Bryanna Cote and Samantha Clifton sharing top spots in Group B

The Top 8 from each group will contest the best-of-3 elimination knockout Top 32 rounds on Friday, January 9th. The field will be cut to Top 16, then Quarter-finals, Semi-finals and Final Gold medal match.
