19th June, Macau: 2017 The Masters third runner-up, Nerosha Keligit of Malaysia and debutant, Pak Kyung Rok of Korea led the Women's and Men's Open Masters qualifying standings at the 2018 Macao-China International Open underway at Cotai Bowling Center.
Keligit posted two 3-games series of 710 and 687 for a superb 1397 to lead the Women's Open overseas pool. Japan's Misaki Mukotani trailed in second with 1343 followed by a second Malaysian, Sharon Koh in thrid with 1335.
The top 3 overseas qualifiers earn a bye and will automatically advance to Round 2 finals. A third Malaysian, Alisha Iman Cheong missed the top bracket by 5 pins to take up fourth with 1330 while a second Japanese, Nanami Irie completed the top 5 with 1326.
2015 ABF Tour Macau leg champion, Veronica Dias De Souza led the local pool with 1317 followed by Filomena Choi in second with 1247 and 2017 Asian School triple gold medallist, Wong Son Ian in third with 1231.
The top 3 local qualifiers earn a bye and will also automatically advance to Round 2 finals. Hui Tong missed the cut by 5 pins to take up fourth with 1226 as 2011 ABF Tour Macau leg champion, Julia Lam rounded out the top 5 with 1193.
2011 and 2012 ABF Tour Thailand leg winner, Yanee Saebe of Thailand headed the mixed pool with 1288 as the cut in 15th position went to Lee Hyeon Gyung of Korea with 1194. Local qualifiers positioned 4 to 7, overseas qualifiers positioned 4 to 7, the 15 qualifiers from the mixed pool and the defending champion will contest the Round 1 finals over 8 games.
The top 12 finalists with the highest total pinfall after the 8 games will advance to Round 2 finals, joined by the 6 seeded qualifiers for another 8 games. The top 6 finalists with the highest pinfall after the 8 games will proceed to the stepladder shootout finals.
Meanwhile bowlers from the Korean National Sports University dominated the Men's Open division with Pak Kyung Rok leading the overseas pool with 1513 from two stunning 3-games series of 762 and 751. Team-mates, Hwang Sung Hyun and Lee Won Seok finished second and third with 1507 and 1501.
2017 World Championships Trios gold medallist, Wu Siu Hong of Hong Kong missed the top bracket by one pin to take up fourth position with 1500 ahead of a fourth Korean, Yang Jong Won completing the top 5 with 1491.
Ho Weng Hou and Tam Tsz Sun are the two seeded National qualifiers with 1385 and 1164. Zoe Dias Ma topped the local pool with 1476 ahead of Lei Hok Hin in second with 1457 and 2015 ABF Tour Thailand leg champion, Lee Tak Man in third with 1454.
The top 3 local and top 3 overseas qualifiers will automatically advance to Round 2 finals. Han Jae Hyeon of KNSU headed the mixed pool with 1461 as the cut in 15th and 16th positions is tied by two Indonesians, Hardy Rachmadian and Billy Muhammad Islam with 1418.
Local qualifiers positioned 6 to 10, overseas qualifiers positioned 4 to 10, the 16 qualifiers from the mixed pool and the defending champion will contest the Round 1 finals over 8 games. The top 18 finalists with the highest total pinfall after the 8 games will advance to Round 2 finals, joined by the 6 seeded qualifiers for another 8 games. The top 6 finalists with the highest pinfall after the 8 games will proceed to the stepladder shootout finals.
Qualifying will continue for another 2 days and the Round 1 will be staged on June 22 and Round 2 finals on June 23. The top 16 Asian men and top 16 Asian women will also qualify for the 2018 ABF Tour second leg, Macau on June 24.
