Malaysians ends qualifying in total command

24th November, Kuching: Sarawakian Chong Jun Foo ended the second day of qualifying rounds of the Sarawak International Bowling Championships 2022 in total command with fellow Malaysians occupying the top eight positions in the Open standings.

Chong posted two consistent and equally impressive five-games series of 1245 and 1246 to lead the Open standings with 2491. Overnight leader and Malaysian national squad member, Megat Zaqrul Haiqal slipped down to second on 2440. 2022 SEA Games Team silver medallist national squad member, Mohamad Hafiz Zainuddin did well with 1245 to add to his 1126 in the first block to take up third with 2371.

Ahmad Aidil Abdul Halim, who topped Squad C, took fourth place with 2355 while another Srawakian, Abner Loo Chun Lik rounded out the top five with 2344.

The fifth Malaysian and 21st Asian Junior Masters silver medallist, Airel Amri Suhaimi finished sixth with 2327 followed by a third Sarawakian in sixth position with 2327. Seventh position went to a fourth Sarawakian, Melvin Gilbert Gimang with 2316.

Faten Najihah was the best female qualifier in the Open division taking up eighth position with 2307. Best overseas and second best female qualifier and leader of Squad D, Dena Buxton of Australia was ninth with 2303.

PBA pro and winner of nine PBA titles, Dominic Barrett of England was the best male overseas qualifier rounding up the top ten with 2300. The standings has not been finalised at press time as the Day 2 'Joker Squad' will be played late Thursday evening and into the morning of Friday.

The top 60 will make the cut for the Masters Finals scheduled for Saturday, November 25. The cut at 60th position went to Ryan Loo of Malaysia with 2123, averaging 212.3. Muhd Bakri Husain of Negeri Sembilan missed the cut by just two pins.

Players not in the top 60 still have a chance to make the cut with the second Joker Squad, provided they can improve any two lowest games posted in the second block. Muhammad Hafiz Darwisy of Malaysia, topped the Classified division qualifying standings with 2273.

Abner Loo, who had qualified for the Open division, finished second with 2264 while Squad D Classified division leader, Mahadzir Mohammad Ali rounded out the top three with 2244. Megat Zaqrul occupied pole in the Youth 25 & Under division with 2440.

Airel Amri, who qualified in sixth in the Open division, completed the top three with 2297. The top 60 Classified division Masters qualifiers will contest the 8-games finals tomorrow morning. The top three with the highest pinfalls will be declared the winners.

The top 60 Youth 25 & Under qualifiers will also contest their 8-games Masters finals in the evening. The top three with the highest pinfalls will advance to the stepladder shootout finals to determine the winners. Live video streaming thtoughout of the Masters Finals and Stepladder shootout finals will be available.
