Qatar, Malaysia captures Doubles gold

29th July, Doha: Squad 1 leader, Talal Al Marri and Masaed Al Muraikhi captured the Boy's Doubles gold medal for host, Qatar A at the 24th Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships while Qurratu'Ain Pozi and Adelia Nur Syazalee gave Malaysia's second gold in the Girl's Doubles.

Talal shot 1336 and Masaed rolled 1354 to lead the opening squad with 2690. Hussian Qasem and Saleh Aladsani of Kuwait A finished second to the Qataris with 2571 while Abdulla Al Dosary and Hamad Al Abdulla of Qatar B took third spot with 2563.

The second Kuwait A pair of Adel Ali and Nasser Alkandari got off the second squad with a sizzling 555 to lead Malaysia A's second pair of Muhammad Hafiz Azhlan and Sayed Abdullah 72 pins. The second Malaysia B pair of Muhammad Affan Azmi and Yek Zhen Kho took over the running after the second game.

As the Kuwaiti pair faded away, the Malaysian pair continued to set the pace. The second Qatar B pair of Hassan Al Muraikhi and Abdulrahman Al Doseri surged into the lead after rolling 480 and 489 in the fourth and fifth games.

Hassan and Abdulrahman needed only 402 or more to overhaul their compatriot and Squad 1 leader but suffered a poor 381 to settle for the silver medal with 2669. Talal and Masaed held on to win the Qatar's first gold medal of the competition.

Muhammad Affan and Yek clinched the bronze medal with 2583 while Hussain Qasem and Saleh Aladsani missed the podium by 11 pins to take up fourth position.

Meanwhile, Malaysia picked up their second gold medal when Singles gold medalist, Qurratu'Ain Pozi and Adelia Nur Syazalee cruised to a comfortable victory in the Girl's Doubles with 2440, 198 pins ahead of Chinese Taipei's Ho Yi-Qing and Huang Hsin-Tsen, who settled for the silver medal with 2242.

A second Taiwanese pair of Li Yi-Rou and Chen Yun-Ying edged the first Malaysia B pair of Nursyarafana Amri and Balqis Nurdini Khairul by 15 pins to take home the bronze medal with 2222. The Malaysian missed the podium with a total of 2207.

Qurratu'Ain led he Girl's All Events standings after 12 games with 2485 followed by her Doubles gold winning partner, Adelia Syazalee in second with 2391. Huan Hsin-Tsen occupied third spot with 2364.

Sayed Abdullah and Wan Muhammad Zarif Mazlan occupied the first two spots in the Boy's All Events standings with 2650 and 2647 respectively. Doubles gold medalist, Masaed Al Muraikhi of Qatar A took up third spot with 2647.

Competition will shift to the Team of 4 event which will be contested over two blocks of three games on July 30 and 31. The top 16 boys and top 16 girls with the highest total based on 18 games bowled, will qualify for the Masters finals.
