8th February, Manila: Nanyang Technology University (NTU) of Singapore, emerged as overall champion of the 2nd Asian University Bowling Championship with a medal haul of 4-2-2 after four days of competition.
NTU's four gold medals came from David Candra, who topped the Men's All Events with an 18-game total of 3984 from the three events - Singles, Doubles and Team. Candra almost clinch the Masters gold but lost to Ederick Florencio of University of St. Tomas in the title match, 177-184.
Candra gave NTU their first gold medal when he posted 1398 in the Men's Singles event on Day 1. Candra paired with Aaron Zhang Yiren to bag the Doubles gold medal with 2549. The third gold was won by NTU's women in the Team event when Janice Chong, Regina Rodricks, Teo Ai Ling and Lee Wei Qi amassed a total of 4138.
University of Philippines (UP) finished second overall with a medal count of 3-2-2. Kimberly Lao gave UP their first gold when she knocked down a record-breaking 1464 to win the Women's Singles event. Lao went on to claimed her second gold when she topped the Women's All Events standings with 4073.
Mades Arles defeated Kimberly Lao, 204-237 in the Women's Masters title match to win their third gold. Ateneo De Manila took the remaining gold to finish third overall after they triumphed in the Men's Team of 4 event with a total of 4837.
Paolo Darroga of La Salle Greenhills emerged the Masters champion in the High School division when he defeated Stewart Ngo of Xavier High School, 257-170 in the title match. Darroga also bagged the Singles gold medal with 1253. Ateneo de Manila High School's Miguel Ocampo and Jayson Tubid captured the High School Doubles gold when the duo amassed 2549 pinfalls.
