Hong Kong youth wins opening squad

6th May, Taoyuan: 2022 Asian Junior Team gold medalist, Jason Leung of Hong Kong, China won the opening squad in his first block of five games qualifying rounds of the 3rd Formosa International Bowling Classic 2026 ahead of team-mate, Dylan Lam in second and Chen Te Shuan of Chinese Taipei third.

Leung got off the block with a stunning 277 in his opening game to lead Muhammad Danial of Malaysia by 18 pins with Shuichi Heki of Japan in third, a further 15 pins away. Leung added three scintillating games of 228, 246 and 268 in his next three games before wrapping up his splendid effort with 1297 to win the squad.

Chen Te Shuan of Chinese Taipei and Dylan Lam of Hong Kong, China traded second spot from game two to fifth. But it was Chen who held on to second position with 1198. Lam settled for third with 1171 while Ethan Damien Goh of Malaysia and a third Hong Kong youth, Jovi Ma rounded the top five with 1157 and 1154 respectively.

Three more Hong Kong national youths, Jeremy Wong, Amen Yuen and Colin Cheng finished sixth, seventh and eighth positions with 1130, 1127 and 1122. Heki fizzled out to end in ninth position with 1107 and Liu Szu Wei completing the top 10.

Squad B will take to the lanes at 13:00hrs local time for their first block of five games. Squad C and Squad D will contest theirs at 17:00hrs and 21:00hrs later this evening. Players will bowl two additional blocks of 5 games qualifying round each in the next two days.
