17th January, Hong Kong, China: His Excellency Sheikh Talal Mohammed Al-Sabah, President of IBF and ABF declared open the 2025 IBF Para World Bowling Championships at Top Bowl, Kai Tak Sports Park, graced by Hon. Mrs Jenny Fung, SBS, JP., President of China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee.

The opening was also graced by Ms Manda Chan Wing Man, JP., Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr. Tony Choi, Chief Executive, Hong Kong Sports Institute, including the Hon. Kenneth K.K. Fok, JP., Legislative Councillor, Mr George Tsoi Kin Pan, Commissioner for Sports and a list of distinguished guests comprising of governmental personnel, sponsors, partners and embassy representatives.

Mr Eric Lee and Ms Leong Nai Kan, emcees for the ceremony welcomed all present and kicked off proceedings with the instruction of guests of honour, dignitaries and several notable guests before announcing the march past of the 18 participating countries and territories, starting with Australia and ending with host, Hong Kong China.

Speeches proceeded the teams parade first by Ms Vivien Lau, SBS, JP., Organising Chairman and Chairman of HKCTBC where she thanked the guests of honours, generous sponsors and partners and the various governmental departments for their support of this championship.

She also expressed sincere appreciation to His Excellency, Sheikh Talal, President of IBF and ABF for awarding the prestigious IBF Para World Bowling Championships to HKCTBC, the China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee, Leisure and Cultural Services and other sports institutes and sports committees for their support.

His Excellency Sheikh Talal, in his opening address, re-iterated his confidence in HKCTBC for doing and excellent job of hosting this event as demonstrated by the IBF World Cup held a week ago.

Ms Jenny Fung, SBS, JP. President of China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee then delivered her speech to assuring the teams will be well taken of by HKCTBC during their stay here and also re-iterated that Hong Kong is always be a perfect country to host such a prestigious event at the state-of-the-art Kai Tak Sports Park.

Ms Manda Chan Wing Man, JP., Director of Leisure and Cultural Services gave the final speech of the opening during which she expressed continued confidence in HKCTBC for hosting this championship and that her department will continue to lend their support.

Mr Cheong Hoi Yung and Ms Cheung Yee Hang, members of the Hong Kong China team, took the athlete oath on behalf of all participants while Dr Danny Santos, Tournament Director, took the oath on behalf of tournament officials.

The guests of honour and dignitaries were then invited to perform the traditional dotting of the lions' eye and tying the "Good Luck" ribbons. After the lions dance performance that followed, His Excellency Sheikh Talal then officially declared the championship opened. Earlier in the day, official practice sessions were held for bowlers to familiarise the lanes. 109 men and 45 women from 18 countries and territories will be vying for glory in the week to follow.
