24th November, Hong Kong, China: A traditional grand ceremony, graced by His Excellency, Sheikh Talal Mohammed Al-Sabah, President of IBF and ABF, declaring the much-anticipated HKGX 2025 IBF World Bowling Championships declaring it open.

The ceremony was also graced by Ms Rotana Law, JP, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, The Honorary Timothy T.T. Fok, GBM, GBS, JP, President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China. Also present were Ms Manda Chan Wing-Man, JP, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr. Wilfred Ng Sau-Kei, GBS, MH, JP, Chairman of the Major Sports Events Committee and Dr. Haywood Cheung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Gold Exchange.

Other distinguished guests were Dr Connie Lau, Executive Manager, Charities (Culture), The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Mr. Vincent LAM, JP, Chairman and Founder of Asiaray Media Group, Mr. Henry Yeung, Director of Top Bowl, Mr Kyohei Akagi, Honorary Advisors of ABF, Mr Jeong Suk, Vice President of ABF (Far East Region) and Mr Bandar Al-Shafi, Executive Committee Member of ABF.

Representatives from other zones were Mr Martin Faba, First Vice President of IBF and President of Apn-Am Bowling Confederation, IBF Executive Board Members, Mr Valgeir Gudbjartsson and Mr Onder Gurkan.

The emcee welcomed all guests and team officials and introduced the distinguished present before welcoming athletes from the following participating countries and territories: Australia, Bermuda, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Macao China, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Chinese Taipei, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates(UAE), United States of America and Hong Kong, China.

Ms Vivien Lau, SBS, JP., Organising Chairman of the championships and Chairman of Hong Kong China Tenpin Bowling Congress delivered her welcome speech by expressing gratitude to the support and confidence given to HKCTBC for hosting the championships by IBF.

She ended her address by also extending her appreciation to the sponsors and partners for lending a help hand for hosting such an important and prestigious event.

His Excellency Sheikh Talal, in his speech said that he is confident that HKCTBC will do an excellent job in hosting this championship and that the participants will be well taken care of. His speech was followed by Ms Rosanna Law, JP., Secretary for Cultures, Sports and Tourism.

Mr Timothy Fok also gave a speech at the opening in which he was pleased to see more and more young athletes showing interests in tenpin bowling. He re-iterated that in no time, HKCTBC will have access to a pool of talented players.

After the speeches, the distinguished guests were all invited to perform the dotting of the lions' eyes and tieing good luck ribbons. A total of 168 men and 132 women from thirty-one countries and territories have converged in Hong Kong, China for the HKGX 2025 IBF World Championships from November 24 to December 5, 2025 at Top Bowl, Kai Tak Sports Park, Kowloon. The highlights of the championships is in the construction of two special lanes at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium for the Trios and Team Semi-finals and Finals.
