21st June, Macau: A second Korean National Sports University student, Lee Jae Jung added a stunning 823 series to take over the lead of the Men's Open Masters qualifying top spot of the 2017 Macau China International Open with 1571.
The 20-year-old Lee, who was third in the mixed pool with 1454, started his qualifying round with 256 and 278 before reeling in ten consecutive strikes and going for the fourth perfect game of the tournament. But a stubborn pin 9 on his elevnth throw prevented him from winning MOP$5,000 and instead settled for 289.
His incredible feat gave him the stunning 823 series to add to his other highest three-game series of 748 for the new six-game tally of 1571. At the same squad, his compatriot, Lee Jung Soo had better luck than him, rolling 12 consecutive strikes for the fourth perfecto.
However, Lee's perfect game did not help him much in the standings, managing only 695 series to improve a few positions in the mixed pool. Hwang Sung Hyun of Korea, who led breifly, settled for second spot with 1550 while second perfect gamer, Joshua Chow of Hong Kong slipped down to third with his 1540 total.
