Hahl, Seok Kim bags Champion of Champions titles |
7th January, Singapore: Tom Hahl was in devastating form as he rolled an impressive 3715 pinfalls for an average of 232 pinfalls to capture the Champion of Champions, 2000 title. |
Hahl, a permanent resident came close to hitting a Perfect Game; scoring 298 pinfalls in the first game of the preliminary round. It was almost elementary from then as Hahl raced away from his competition with games of 235, 174, 282, 249 and 215 amassing 1453 pinfalls to lead by 113 pinfalls at the end of the 6 games preliminary round. Hahl continued his imposing form in the round robin and position rounds to seal the title, winning by 221 pinfalls from his closest rival, national bowler, Remy Ong (3494). |

In the Ladies' Division, resurgent national bowler, Yap Seok Kim put up an equally stirring performance with a total pinfall of 3477 to win the Ladies' title. Yap led from the start and never looked back as her competition watched in awe of her prowess. The smile on her face said it all as she poses jubilantly for the press after the prize presentation. Fellow national bowlers Jesmine Ho (3321) and Jennifer Tan (3195) finished in second and third positions respectively.
Reigning Asian FIQ champion, Andrew Fang, who is undergoing huge changes in his game staged an encouraging effort to finish third in the Men's Division. National coach, Ron Hoppe who is helping Fang transform his game said: "These changes were necessary to reach his personal goals. It was also his choice to start these changes when he did. He had the foresight and courage to sacrifice the results of a few tournaments to make these changes. To me, that say's a lot about his character." With the SEA Games just around the corner, local bowling fans will be anxious for Fang to resume his winning ways.
The 2000 calendar will end with the Grand Slam Finals of the Asian Bowling Tour to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 10 - 14 Jan 2001. Singapore will be represented by Tom Hahl, Andrew Fang, Remy Ong and Jeremy Fang in the Men's Division; Jesmine Ho and Jennifer Tan in the Ladies' Division. |
