Masters event goes to Busan and Paranaque cities

23rd November, Manila: Busan's Lee Hyun-Ju and Paranaque's C.J. Suarez emerged as Women's and Men's Masters champion of the 17th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship while Paranaque retained their Overall Champions title.

Team Gold medalist, Lee Hyun-Ju who was second in the first block Masters finals yesterday outclassed her opponents to bag the Women's Masters crown with a superb 1733 scratch score and 55 points bonus to give her a two-block total of 3528. Singles Gold medalist, Liza Clutario did well to win the Silver medal for Paranaque after lying 6th in the first block. Her score of 3323 was 205 pins behind the champion.

Doubles Gold medalist, Happy Soediyono from Jakarta scored a disappointing 1563 plus bonus to drop to 3rd on an overall total of 3316 and had to settle for the Bronze medal.

Singles Gold medalist, Koo Hyun-Jee stromed home from 9th yesterday to 4th but just missed winning a medal on a 3294 total.

In the men's division, newly crowned AMF WOrld Cup champion and All Events Gold medalist, C.J. Suarez lived up to his reputation of being the best bowler in Asia this year when he romped home with 1855 plus bonus points to cap the Men's Masters crown with an overall total of 3536.

Dae Gu's Lee Tae-Ju and Yoon Dal-Young finished 2nd and 3rd to take the Silver and Bronze medal on scores of 3498 and 3460 respectively. Overnight leader, Cheng Peng Sheng from Macau dropped to 5th behind teammate Choi Iao Man who finished 4th.

Manlia's hope of a medal faded when Sandy Cotoco slided to 6th from 4th overnight. Paranaque City retained their Overall Champions title when their bowlers brought home 5 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals for a runaway

38 points. Busan settled for second with 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals total 22 points. Although Jakarta and Dae Gu tied on 17 points, Jakarta took third spot by virtue of winning 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals as opposed to Dae Gu's 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.

Jakarta, Macau tops Masters first block finals

22nd November, Manila: Happy Soediyono of Jakarta and Cheng Peng Sheng of Macau topped the Women's and Men's the 17th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship first block Masters Finals.

Winner of the Women's Doubles Gold medal, Happy Soediyono scored 1673 and won 7 out of 8 games matchplay to lead the Women's first block Masters finals with 1743 total. Hot on her heals came Team Gold medalist Lee Hyun-Ju of Busan, just 4 pins away on 1740.

Paranaque's Liza del Rosario, who won 3 Silver medals finished third and is determine to score her first Gold medal by staying in touch with the leaders on 1708 pinfalls.

Doubles Gold medalist, Go Lily took 4th spot with 1658 while Team Gold medalist, Kim Kyung-Hee of Busan finished 5th with 1642. Singles Gold medalist, Liza Clutario finished a disappointing 6th place on 1610 and will need to improve her second block finals tomorrow to stand any chance of winning a medal.

In the men's division, Macau's Cheng Peng Sheng, who made the finals in 12th spot, surprised the field of 16 to top the first block finals with 1786 after winning 5 games and scoring 1736 scratch. But Cheng was only 5 pins ahead of Doubles Silver medalist, Lee Tae-Ju from Dae Gu who downed 1781.

Staying in touch with the leaders came Yoon Dal-Young also from Dae Gu, just 1 pin further in third. Manila's Sandy Cotoco came in 4th with 1776 while newly crowned AMF World Cup champion and 2 Gold medals winner, C.J. Suarez finished a distant 5th with 1681. The finalists will continue their second block Masters Finals tomorrow to determine the eventual champion.

Korean dominates as Dae Gu, Busan captures the Team event

21st November, Manila: Koreans once again proved they are a powerhouse as Dae Gu and Busan bagged the Men's and Women's Team event of the 17th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship on Day 3.

Defending Men's overall champion Dae Gu claimed the Men's Team event Gold medal with team members comprising of Lee Tae-Ju, Park Dae-Soon, Kim Jong-Hyun and Yoon Dal-Young. Uiwang and host Paranaque were the eventual Silver and Bronze medal finishers respectively.

Newly crowned AMF World Cup champion and Doubles Gold medalist, C.J. Suarez proved that 2003 is his most successful year as he bagged the Men's All Events Gold medal.

C.J. averaged 218 for a total of 3932 pinfalls over 18 games and was too strong for Jakarta's Ryan Lalisang who settled for Silver with 3821. Dae Gu's Yoon Dal-Young came in third for the Bronze medal with 3802. The top 16 in the All Events qualified for the Masters finals to be played on Saturday.

Busan's Koo Hyun-Jee, Lee Sang-Yong, Kim Kyung-Hee and Lee Hyun-Ju overpowered their opponents to clinch the Women's Team Gold medal. Paranaque and Jakarta who finished second and third respectively settled for the Silver and Bronze medal.

Also in top form was World Championship Trios Gold medalist, Liza Clutario as she claimed the Women's All Events title with a total of 3728. She overcame the challenges of Busan's Lee Hyun-Ju and Koo Hyun-Jee to clinch her second Gold medal in the competition leaving the Koreans with the Silver and Bronze medal respectively.

The top 16 women will battle it out in the Masters finals starting tomorrow for a final Gold medal chance.

Paranaque City is determine to retain the Champions' title leading the Overall Medal tally with 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals on 30 points despite not winning the Team event. Busan was placed second place with 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals on 17 points while Jakarta occupied third spot with 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze on 15 points.

Paranaque City almost takes clean sweep of Doubles event

20th November, Manila: Paranaque City almost swept the Doubles event when Chester King and C.J. Suarez captured the Men's title while the women lost by one pin to Jakarta's Go Lily and Happy Soediyono in the 17th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship on Day 2.

Chester King, winner of the AVIVA Asian Bowling Tour Hong Kong leg last year partnered 2003 AMF World Cup champion, C.J. Suarez to score a total of 2572 to capture Paranaque's second Gold medal of the championship. King scored 1237 while Suarez was awesome recording lines of 168, 238, 222, 245, 225 and 237 for a score of 1335.

Singles Bronze medalist, Lee Tae-Ju and Yoon Dal-Young from Dae Gu finished second for the Silver 58 pins behind the champion on 2514. Manila City won their first medal of the competition when Sammy S. Sy and Benny Dytoc scored a combined total of 2421 for the Bronze.

Macau's Cheng Peng Sheng and Choi Iao Man missed out on a medal when they finished 4th with 2392.

Paranaque almost walked away with a clean sweep of the Doubles event but were unlucky again to loose by one pin. Joint Singles Gold medalist, Liza Clutario and Liza del Rosario settled for the Silver medal after scoring 2470. Jakarta bagged their second Gold medal when Go Lily and Happy Soediyono scored 2471 to snatch the victory to prevent Paranaque City a clean sweep.

Joint Singles Gold medalist, Koo Hyun-Jee and Lee Hyun-Ju from Busan settled for the Bronze medal when they downed 2416 pinfalls finishing third.

After two events, World Championship Masters Silver medalist leads the Women's All Events table with 2505 total, just 5 pins ahead of Jakarta's Happy Soediyono on 2500 while Busan's Lee Hyun-Ju is placed third on 2489. AMF World Cup champion, C.J. Suarez tops the Men's table with 2585

but only on a small margin of 7 pins in front of Singles Gold medalist, Ryan Lalisang from Jakarta. Third spot went to Dae Gu's Yoon Dal-Young on 2545.

Paranaque City leads the Overall Medal tally with 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medal totalling 15 points followed by Jakarta with 2 Gold medals and 10 points. Third place is occupied by Busan with 1 Gold and 1 Bronze medal on 7 points. Competition continues with the Team event tomorrow played over two block of 3 games.

Jakarta wins Men's Singles while Busan and Paranaque shares Women's

19th November, Manila: Ryan Lalisang captured the Men's Singles Gold medal while Koo Hyun-Jee and Liza Clutario shared the Women's event of the 17th Asian Intercity Championship underway at Pearl Bowling Centre.

The 25 year-old top bowler from Jakarta, Indonesia took to the lanes from the word "Go" with a high game of 268 followed by 188, 201, 257, 232 and 246 for a total 1392 over 6-games and an impressive average of 232.00 to win his city's first Gold medal.

Korea's Jo Nam-Yi from Uniwang City took the Silver 50 pins away on 1342 while fellow countryman, Lee Tae-Ju from Dae Gu finished third for the Bronze medal with 1265.

Kwoloon's Henry Hui missed the medal by just 7 pins after scoring 1258 for 4th place while 2003 AMF World Cup champion C.J. Suarez from Paranaque City could only manage 5th place with 1250.

In the women's division, the winner was down to the wire when Paranaque's Liza Clutario stormed home with 244 and 243 in her last 2 games to tie with Busan's Koo Hyun-Jee on 1286. Koo also had to fence off Liza's challenge with 263 and 216 in her final 2 games to bag the Gold medal.

And the scores could not get any closer when Liza del Rosario from Paranaque just miss by one pin to finish third and settling for the Bronze medal. Despite bowling well in the first 3 games with lines of 223, 203 and 231, a low 168 in the 4th game did her no good.

She fought on galantly with 223 and 237 in her last 2 games but was just unlucky not to overtake her opponents. Busan's Lee Hyun-Ju took 4th spot with a score of 1256 while Jakarta's Happy Soediyono finished 5th with 1235.

Paranaque leads the Overall Medal tally with 1 Gold and 1 Bronze medal and 7 points followed by Jakarta and Busan in joint-second with one Gold a piece and 5 points. Uniwang and Dae Gu lies 4th and 5th with 3 and 2 points respectively.

A total of 68 men and 47 women bowlers are competiting in this year's 17th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship hosted at Pearl Bowling Centre. The competition will continue tomorrow with the Doubles event.
