Korea, Singapore dominates Round 1

13th December, Kuala Lumpur: Korean youths finished one-three in the Boy's Open Round 1 Masters finals while Singaporeans took the top three spots in the Girl's division of the 23rd Storm U22 International Junior All-Stars Bowling Championships.

Suwon youth, Bae Junghun won the round with a 10-game total of 2305 pinfalls, 63 pins ahead of Peter Khor of AJS Bowling, Singapore, who amassed a total of 2242. Bae's compatriot, Lim Seung Min of Korea National Sports University rounded out the top three with 2237.

2019 Asian Junior Masters gold medallist, Alex Yu Ho Yin of Hong Kong did well to take up fourth spot with 2232 followed by another two Korean National Sports University students, Kim Seong Tak and Han Seong Min in fifth and sixth positions respectively.

2022 Asian Junior two gold medalist, Lan Shao Kang of Chinese Taipei survived the cut for the next round in 18th position with 2068, averaging 206.8. Eight pins ahead in 17th was Blake Walsh of Australia NTS 18 with 2076.

Walsh's fellow-countrymen, Matthew Purser missed the cut by five pins in 19th position. The top 18 from this round will advance to Round 2 finals, joined by the top 6 local and top 6 overseas qualifiers from the general standings for another 10 games.

Meanwhile Singapore youths dominated the girl's division by taking up the top four spots. Nura Salsabila Binte Zulkifli and 2023 Asian Junior four gold medalist, Lim Shi En of Singapore Sports School finished one-two with 2051 and 2010.

Althea Dang of Agape Bowling Academy, Singapore took third spot with 1997 followed by her team-mate Lim Wan Ling in fourth position with 1994. Philippines' Danielle Escolano completed the top five with 1970.

Best Malaysian youths were Hafifa Hazlan of Wipers and National youth, Nur Aqila taking up sixth and seventh positions while another Malaysian National youth, Adelia Nur made the cut for the next round in 12th position with 1913. Kim Ye Ji of KNSU, Korea missed the cut by just three pins.

The top 12 from this round will advance to Round 2 finals, joined by the top 6 local and top 6 overseas qualifiers from the general standings for another 10 games. The top 5 boys and top 5 girls with the highest total will proceed to the Stepladder Shootout finals.

Finalists positioned 3 to 5 will bowl one-game matchplay semi-finals with the highest scorer advancing to the final to face off the top seed from Round 2 in a beat-twice by the challenger to be crowned the champion.
