29th Thailand International Open
Rules & Regulations
  1. ORGANIZATION AND SANCTION
    This International Bowling Championship is organized by the Thai Tenpin Bowling Congress (TTBC) and sanctioned by Asian Bowling Federation and World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA). TTBC and WTBA Playing Rules and Regulations shall apply on matters not covered herein. This tournament is a ranking tournament in Asia toward the World Ranking Masters.
  2. ELIGIBILITY
    This tournament is open to all current paid up members of association duly recognized by TTBC and WTBA affiliates.
  3. AVERAGES
    Bowlers shall be classified to the latest TTBC listing of averages. Bowlers without TTBC shall get an average certification from their respective associations signed by their President or Secretary, otherwise they will be classified as class "O" bowlers with an average of 196 for men and 186 for women.
  4. SQUAD TIMES
    If preferred squad times indicated on the entry forms are not available, the Tournament Directors or their Assistants reserve the right to reallocate squad times at their discretion. The Tournament Directors reserve the right to open additional squads.
  5. PARITICPATION
    Bowlers must play in their respective grades or in higher one. Bowlers from a higher grade will not be eligible to play in any of the lower grades. Bowlers in the Graded division who wish to participate in Open division after qualifying in their respective grades, may do so without competing in the All Events again in the Open division. However, they will have to pay an additional registration of the Open division. There will be no mixing of divisions in the Doubles and Trios events. There can be mixing of division only for purpose of completing the All Events in their respective grades. Howver, the score of that event would only be counted towards the higher grade.
  6. CLASSIFICATION
    1. OPEN DIVISION
      All registered male and female bowlers, regardless of average, will be eligibleto play in this division.
    2. GRADED DIVISION
      All registered bowlers with an average of 180 and below for men and 171 - 185 for women will be eligible to play in this division. Only official averages of TTBC. Overseas bowlers must produce written confirmation of their averages from their respective Association and Congresses.
    3. GRADED DIVISION B
      All registered bowlers with an average below and including 180 for men and 170 and below for women will be eligible to play in this division.
    4. SENIOR DIVISION
      All registered male and female bowlers 50 years of age and above as at May 5, 2003 are eligible to play in this division. Senior Division bowlers will only play in the Master's Qualifying event to qualify for the Master's Final.
      1. Senior Masters Qualifying
        Game Fee: Baht 500 per attempt.
        Registration Fee: Baht 500 (4 games will be bowled in this event). A bowler may try in as many attempts. The top 12 bowlers based on 4 games total pinfall with handicap given as follows shall qualify for the Masters Finals:
        Handicap for MQ : Men
        50 - 60 years of age : 0
        61 - 70 years of age : 12 pins shall be added to total pinfalls
        71 years of age and above : 16 pins shall be added to total pinfalls.
        Handicap for MQ : Women
        50 - 60 years of age : 6
        61 - 70 years of age : 24 pins shall be added to total pinfalls
        71 years of age and above : 48 pins shall be added to total pinfalls.
      2. Senior Masters Finals
        Game Fee: Baht 1,200
        6 Game roll-off finals will be bowled to decide the Champion. The handicap given as follows shall apply:
        Handicap for Men
        50 - 60 years of age : 0
        61 - 70 years of age : 36 pins 71 years of age and above : 72 pins
        Handicap for Women
        50 - 60 years of age : 36
        61 - 70 years of age : 72 pins 71 years of age and above : 96 pins
    5. YOUTH DIVISION
      This event is open to all bowlers below 22 years of age as at January 2003 (born in 1981 and after). The top 16 bowlers for Youth O and top 12 for Youth A qualifiers will play 10 games scratch, total pinfalls decide the winner on. A personal check-in time before 08.45 am. Game Fee: Baht 1,000.
      1. Handicap for Youth MQ & Masters Finals : Girls
        Youth O : 8 pins per game
        Youth A : 8 pins per game
  7. REGISTRATION FEE
    Baht 500 per bowler for all categories. Baht 800 per bowler for all Men's and Women's Open division (one time payment). This will entitle all registrants to a tournament couvenir and to enter the Victory Banquet.
  8. ENTRY FEES
    All entries must be submitted with the relevant fees. No refund will be allowed.
  9. SINGLES
    4 games will be bowled in this event. A bowler may try in as many attempts with the first attempt bowled to count in All Event. Note: No bowler may win more than one prize in the Singles event. Game Fees: Baht 800 per attempt.
  10. DOUBLES
    4 games will be bowled in this event. An entrant may bowl as many times as he/she chooses with the first attempt bowled to count in All Event.
    The bowlers may try in as many attampts but not the same combination. Two game series will be bowled by each bowler. Game Fees: Baht 800 per attempt.
  11. TRIOS
    6 games will be bowled in this event. An entrant may bowl as many times as he/she chooses with the first attempt bowled to count in All Event.
    The bowlers may try in as many attampts but not the same combination. Two game series will be bowled by each bowler. Game Fees: Baht 1,200 per attempt.
  12. ALL EVENTS
    An entry fee of Baht 800 is required in this event. This fee must be paid before attampting any of the Events. Failure to do so shall disqualify his/her All Events score. The onus is on the bowlers to ensure that he/she has paid up this fee before he/she attempt his/her first event of the All Events.
    An All Events champion will be declared in each division from total pinfalls of their first attemp in Singles, Doubles and Trios.
  13. REFUND
    No refund shall be made after entry has been registered and verified. Bowlers who do not show up for their scheduled squad time shall automatically forfeit all fees paid up.
  14. SUBSTITUTION
    Substitution in Singles or Masters are only allowed provided it is reported to one of the Tournament Directors or their Assistants.
    The substitution must be approved before the scheduled games at least one (1) hour.
  15. CHECK-IN TIME
    All participants must check-in at the tournament counter at least fifteen (15) minutes before the scheduled time squad time. The Brunswick R.C.A. Centre shall be the official time of the tournament.
  16. PLAYING UNIFORMS
    1. Bowlers who will be playing the Masters finals must conform with the uniform as stipulated in the WTBA Playing Rules.
    2. All male bowlers in shorts and/or singlets will not be permitted to bowl. Female bowlers may wear half-length slacks.
    3. Bowlers are requested to be dressed for their events with a sense of decorum. Rubber bands or socks pulled over trouser/slacks will be disallowed.
  17. BOWLING BALLS
    It is the bowler's responsibility that all weights and specifications of their bowling balls conform to WTBA regulations. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to examine the balls used by the participants. Use of an illegal ball is a ground for disqualification and forfeiture of game, prizes and standings, aside from penalties that may be imposed if such usage is proven to be deliberate.
  18. PLAYING AREA
    Other than the players and official individual/team coach, only tournament officials shall be allowed to enter the playing area. When leaving the playing area during the competition, the bowler is requested to ask permission from the lane marshal or tournament official.
  19. TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURES
    1. In the event of a tie in the last position in the qualifying round, a one game roll-off will serve as a tie breaker. In case of a further tie a 9th and 10th frame roll-off until the tie is broken.
    2. When a tie occurs for any of the first three (3) positions in the Singles, Doubles, Trios and All Events, the tournament will declare co-winners in the Singles, Doubles, Trios and All Events.
    3. When a tie occurs in the Open Masters for the 1st, 3rd and 6th places, a one (1) game roll-off shall be played. In case of another tie, a 9th and 10th frame shall be played and repeated until the tie is broken.
    4. When a tie occurs in the Senior and Graded Masters for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, a one (1) game roll-off shall be played to determine the positions.
  20. MISSING OR DOWN PIN(S)
    On frame with missing pin(s), once the ball is rolled, it shall be treated as a good ball. On frames with fallen or down pin(s) pn the pin deck, the frame must be rebowled. All bowlers are entrusted to monitor and abide by this rule. Bowlers are not allowed to reset the pins, only lane marshal, tournament officials and official scorers are allowed.
  21. LANE ASSIGNMENT
    Games shall be played in a pair of lanes immediatley adjacent to each other as determined by the drawing of lots.
  22. LANE BREAKDOWN
    1. If a single or pair of lanes becomes unusable for more than twenty (20) minutes, before or during the game (Singles, Doubles, or Trios), the Tournament COmmittee reserve the right to transfer the game to any individual lanes provided by the bowling centre or wait for the next available squad. An interrupted game or series must resume from the point (frame) of interruption. No shadow bowling will be allowed.
    2. In the event that the scores of game(s) is erased and cannot be recalled or traced due to power failure or computer breakdown, the bowler concerned shall be required to bowl a new game. However, all scores of completed games that have been recorded on the official score sheet shall remain unchanged.
    3. During the Master Finals, in the event of unexpected machine breakdown in any of the assigned lanes which may take time to repair, the Tournament Committee reserves the right to assign the affected bowlers to another pair of lanes to avoid delay.
  23. PACER
    During the Master Finals, whnever the player chooses to discountinue his/her game, a marshal may designate a pacer when so requested by the remaining player. But for Singles/Qualifying, Doubles or Trios events, no pacer shall be allowed.
  24. SLOW BOWLING
    Bowlers who are in readiness to step on the approach to deliver a ball, shall have the following rights and obligations:
    1. They may claim right of way only over a player moving to the approach or preparing to bowl on the lane immediately to their left.
    2. They shall yield to a player moving to the approach or preparing to bowl on the lane immediately on their right.
    3. Players shall be ready to bowl when it is their turn and shall not delay the start of their approach or delivery if the lane immediately adjacent to them on both the right and left are clear.
    4. Penalty shall be imposed to bowler/s who is/are five (5) frames (Singles/Qualifying, Doubles and Masters finals), and two (2) frames (Trios event) slower from the leader not counting the end pair of lanes. The penalty will be forfeiture of score in the next frame.
  25. OILING
    Uniform oiling shall be used throughout the entire tournament.
  26. PROTESTS
    1. SCORES
      Must be submitted in writing to the Tournament Committee wqithin 12 hours of the event, and in the case of an elimination round, before the next round. In the case of the last match of the Grand Finals of the Master event, such protest, if any, should be addressed to the Tournament Committee before prize presentation. No protest made after the prize presentation will be entertained.
    2. FOULS
      Must be brought to the attention of the Lane Marshall before the delivery of the next ball. No complain made after the 2nd ball has been bowled shall be entertained.
    3. ELIGIBILITY
      Must be submitted in writing to the Tournament Committee within 24 hours of the infrignement or before the next round or prize presentation or whichever is earlier.
  27. SPECIAL NOTES
    1. Bowlers are requested to refrain from swearing on the lanes.
    2. Bowlers shall restrict themselves to their respective lanes and exercise consideration for all participants.
    3. Bowlers wearing soft rubber soles on their non-sliding foot may be barred from further bowling subject to the scrutiny of the Tournament Directors.
    4. Bowlers are not allowed to sand or apply any form of liquid or chemical on the surface of the bowling balls during any block of competition.
    5. The Tournament Directors reserve the right to accept or reject any entry they deem fit.
    6. Any matters arising not covered in these rules shall be delt with by the Tournament Committee whose decision shall be final subject only to the appeal to TTBC. Such appeal should be made in writing and within 48 hours of the desicion by any of the above.
      Nothwithstanding the above, an appeal for THE DECISION OF TTBC may still be lodged with ASIAN BOWLING FEDERATION but through TTBC and within 30 days of TTBC decision.
Masters Event
  1. This event is open to those bowlers who have competed and completed the Singles, Doubles and Trios events in their respective grades and have paid up proof of their All Events entries.
  2. The qualifying scores will be based on 4 games total from the Singles event.
  3. In the event of a tie for the last position in the qualifying round, a one game roll-off will serve as a tie breaker.
  4. All qualifiers must check with the Tournament Directors 24 hours before their final roll-off, to confirm their fixtures and to check for any changes in the schedule.
  5. Any matter not covered in these rules will be delt with by the Tournament Directors or Tournament Committee whose decision shall be final and binding subject to appeal to TTBC Council and the ABF Executive Council.

    Top 8 Overseas Qualifiers
    Top 7 Qualifiers from Local and Overseas pool
    Men's Graded - Top 22 Qualifiers
    Men's Graded B - Top 26 Qualifiers
    Ladies' Graded - Top 12 Qualifiers
    Youth Open - Top 16 Qualifiers
    Youth A - Top 10 Qualifiers
    Senior - Top 12 Qualifiers
  7. Graded Masters: The top 22 male qualifiers and top 12 female qualifiers shall play a 12 game series with lane movement after every game with positioning on the last game. The top three (3) finishers in each division shall be declared Graded A Masters Champion, 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up respectively. The finals on Thursday May 15, 2003 at 1:00pm Personal check-in time before 12.45pm is required. Game Fees: Baht 1,800.
  8. Men Grade B: The top 26 male qualifiers shall play a 10 game series with lane movement after every game with positioning on the last game. The top three (3) finishers in each division shall be declared Graded B Masters Champion, 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up respectively. The finals on Thursday May 15, 2003 at 8:30pm. Personal check-in time before 12.45pm is required. Game Fees: Baht 1,600.
  9. Ladies' Open Masters: This event is open to all Lady bowlers. The top 8 local qualifiers, top 8 overseas qualifiers and top 7 local and overseas pool together with the defending champion will play in the Masters Finals on Thursday May 15, 2003 at 5.00pm. Check-in time at 4.45pm.
    The Masters Finals format will be played in 3 Rounds as follows:-
    Round 1 - 24 Bowlers will bowl 8 games
    Round 2 - 24 Bowlers will bowl another 8 games with score carried forward. At the end of Round 2 based on 16 games total, top 6 bowlers will qualify for Round 3
    Round 3 - The 4th, 5th & 6th placed bowler will bowl one game matchplay. The winner with the highest score will proceed to meet the 2nd & 3rd placed bowlers for another one game matchplay. The winner with the highest score will then qualify to meet the 1st placed bowler in a one plus one game stepladder grand finals. In the event of the 1st place bowler winning the 1st game, she will be declared the Champion. In the event of the 1st place bowler loosing the 1sr game, a one-game (sudden-death) roll off on scratch will be played to decide the Champion.
    Game Fees: Baht 3,000.
    Note: Bowlers who lose in their ROund 3 match (stepladder) can only go down one position from their original rank prior to Round 3 match. Subsequently, the maximum a bowler can move up shall be two ranks unless that bowler moves to the next round.
  10. Men's Open Masters: This event is open to all Male bowlers. The top 13 local qualifiers, top 13 overseas qualifiers and top 12 local and overseas pool together with the defending champion will play in the Masters Finals on Thursday May 15, 2003 at 5.00pm. Check-in time at 4.45pm.
    The format of the Masters Finals in 3 Rounds will be the same as for the Ladies' Open Masters in paragraph 9.0 above.
    Game Fees: Baht 3,000
  11. Reporting TIme
    All Masters Finalists must check in personally 30 minutes to one hour before their respective roll-off times. Reserves will be called 15 minutes before roll-off.
