Singapore bowlers display supremacy to win the Masters titles |
10th November, Saigon: Singapore bowlers, Lee Yu Wen and Jennifer Tan displayed their supremacy to capture the Men's and Women's Open Masters titles of the 2nd Vietnam International Open at Saigon Superbowl.. |

Singapore continued their domination when 2002 World Ranking Masters Champion, Jennifer Tan maintained her consistency to top the field with 3208 total over the two block of the Women's Open Masters. Her teammate Alice Tay retained second with 3124 total while Michelle Kwang completed the 1-2-3 finish on 3087 total. Malaysia's Sharon Chai did well to finish 4th position with 2967 and 12 pins behind her was Shalin Zulkifli on 2955. Vivien Khoo also maintained her sixth position with a 2933 to earn the final birth in the step-ladder finals.
In first match of the Step-Ladder Finals, the all-Malaysian clash witnessed Shalin edging her teammates with a 195-183-183 scoreline. Both Sharon Chai and Vivien Khoo were declared joint 5th position. In second match, Shalin Zulkifli picked up her momentum to shut out the challenge from 2nd-seed Alice Tay and 3rd-seed Michelle Kwang of Singapore 204-167-170 to meet top-seed, Jennifer Tan. |

In the Final match of the Step-Ladder, it was a nail-biting battle between Shalin and the top-seed, Jennifer. Shalin's hope of capturing her fourth international title this year ended when she had 5 frames of splits before being edged out by Jennifer on a lowly score 183-163.
In the men's division, Lee Yu Wen stamped his superiority as he raged the alley to finish top-seed on a 3557 total, averaging 222.3 followed by Philippines' Purvis Granger on 3332 in second. Spinning youngster, Ivan Koh of Singapore finished third on 3277, followed by Malaysia's Azidi Ameran on 3229 in 4th position. Malaysia's evergreen spinner and ex-international, Ricky Chen made the Step-Ladder Finals in fifth with 3223 total. Phan Tan Cuong became the Vietnamese crowd's favourite when he took the final place of the Step-Ladder finals with 3193.
In the first match, Azidi and Ricky entertained the crowd when both of them started to exchange strikes after strikes. Backed by the crowd, local hero, Phan clawed his way back into contention with a turkey and then a double strike. Eventually, the match ended with Azidi winning the match 238-213-204.
In second match, Azidi was rather unfortunate to be pipped out by Philippines' Purvis Granger by 2 pins while third-seed Ivan Koh never settled in at all. The Granger won the match with a 234-232-168 victory.
In the Final match, top-seed Lee Yu Wen almost lost grip of the title when he went down 191-193 to Granger in the first game and was forced into a sudden-death decider. Lee emerged the champion after conveting an all-important 7-8 split in the final frame to win the decider and the title 224-217 over Purvis.

9th November, Saigon: Busan Asian Games Gold medalist, Lee Yu Wen and 2002 World Ranking Masters champion, Jennifer Tan topped the Men's and Ladies' Open Masters first block finals of the 2nd Vietnam International Open at Saigon Superbowl. |

The 22 year-old Singaporean returned great scores 192, 243, 247, 219, 224, 279, 256, 204, 170 & 238 to average 227.2 and a comfortable 196 pins lead over Asian Bowling Tour Philippines leg champion, Purvis Granger who took second spot with 2076. Local bowler, Phan Tan Cuong impressed to be placed third with 2056 while former SEA Games Gold medalist, Ricky Chen of Malaysia did well to finish fourth just 13 pins away on 2043.
Ivan Koh (SIN - 2041) and Surasak Manuwong (THA - 2028) stayed in contention in fifth and sixth respectively while ex-international, Jimmy Lee (MAS - 2018) took seventh ahead of fellow-countrymen, Azidi Ameran (MAS - 2010) in eighth. Two Singaporeans, Vicent Lim (1996) and Khoo Kok Beng (1984) rounded up ninth and tenth places. |

In the women's division, 2002 World Ranking Masters champion, Jennifer Tan topped the field of 14 finalist to round off Singapore's domination of the first block finals at Saigon Superbowl. Tan scored 2004 over the 10 games finals in front of teammate, Michelle Kwang who totalled 1969 while Alice Tay took third spot with 1943. Thailand's Ratchanee Teerarat did well to finish fourth with 1832 ahead of Malaysia's Sharon Chai in fifth with 1794 and Vivien Khoo in sixth with 1793.

The women will bowl the 2nd block 10 games finals tomorrow morning at 1000 hrs while the men will roll-off at 1300 hrs. The 2nd Vietnam International Open is organised by Ho Chi-Minh City Tenpin Bowling Association, sponsored by San Miguel Beer and hosted at the Siagon Superbowl.

Lee, who just turned 22 last month, was awesome in firing up a 227, 241, 277 and 203 for a 948 total 27 pins ahead of overnight leader, Annop Arromsaranon dropping to second with 921 while Lee's fellow-countrymen, Khoo Kok Beng lies third with 908.
Malaysia's youngster, Mustafa Yassin dropped to fourth with 896 alongside former SEA Games Gold medalist, Ricky Chen maintaining fifth with 893. Sandra Sagaran of Singapore took sixth spot with 885 while the best of the local bowlers, Ngo Vihn Dong finished seventh spot with 873. Huang Chin Hui (872) of Chinese Taipei was eighth followed by Alvin Kwang (871) and Vincent Lim (867), both from Singapore in ninth and tenth places respectively. Eight places are reserved for local bowlers while the remaining 24 Masters Finals places are for overseas and local bowlers to fight it out. |

In the women's division, Malaysia's women keglers had a field day this morning, when Vivien Khoo and Sharon Chai impressed with their efforts to complete a 1-2 finish in the penultimate day of Qualifying rounds. Vivien delivered 209, 205, 221 and 200 for a 835 total for the lead followed by teammate, Sharon Chai on 199, 237, 186 and 198 making a total of 820. Busan Asian Games Masters Gold medalist, Shalin Zulkifli put up a creditable performance to score 175, 213, 196 and 204 for a 788 total to position herself in fourth place just four pins behind 2002 World Ranking Masters champion, Jennifer Tan from Singapore on 792.
The next four places from fifth to eighth were occupied by the Vietnamese comprising of Le Thi Minh Thu (771), Diem Thuy (761), Vo Thi Hong Thuy (734) and Lu Kiet Trinh (724) while Huynh Gia Man (715) and Singapore's Michelle Kwang (715) shared ninth spots. |

Jennifer Tan tops Ladies' Open Masters qualifying table |
7th November, Saigon: World Ranking Masters 2002 champion, Jennifer Tan of Singapore topped the Ladies' Open Masters qualifying table of the 2nd Vietnam International Open at Saigon Superbowl while Thailand's Annop Arromsaranon leads the Men's. |

Jennifer Tan, who is the Ladies' defending champion, took to the lanes this morning to score 792 in her first four-games qualifying round to move to the top. The 24 year-old Singaporean was sensational this year when she won the World Ranking Masters 2002 title in Aalborg, Denmark for Singapore in succession. She defeated teammate Jesmine Ho, who won the title in 2001 for the coveted crown.
In second spot was Le Thi Minh-Tu from Ho Chi-Minh City with 771 while earlier leader, Sharon Chai of Malaysia dropped to third with 765. In fourth place was another local, Diem Thuy who scored 761 while 9th Malaysian Games Mixed Doubles Gold medalist, Vivien Khoo took fifth spot with 739. Five pins away was Vo Thi Hong-Thuy (734) in sixth ahead of another Vietnamese, Huynh Gia-Man (715) in seventh with 715. Huynh Ngoc Thuy (708), and Singapore's Alice Tay (708) shared 9th spot while Nguyen Thi Thanh (706) took 10th place. |

In the men's division, Malaysia's Mustafa Yassin stormed to the lead with 896 this morning only to be taken over later in the day by the sensational youngster from Thailand, Annop Arromsaranon with a score of 921. At the same time, newcomer Khoo Kok Beng from Singapore snatched second spot with 906 both pushing Mustafa to into third place.
Ex-international and a SEA Games Gold medalist, Ricky Chen of Malaysia was fourth with 893 ahead of local, Ngo Vinh Dong in fifth with 873. Two Singaporean, Alvin Kwang (871) and Vincent Lim (867) took sixth and seventh places respectively followed by Ha Quang Tri (856) of Vietnam in eight. Busan Asian Games Trios Gold medalist, Lee Yu Wen (851) of Singapore was placed ninth while Vietnamese, Pham Dong Giang (846) made up the top 10. |
