Biboy Rivera, Koo Hyun Jee maintains overall lead

9th June, Manila: Filipino Biboy Rivera and Koo Hyun Jee of Korea maintained their overall in the Men's and Ladies' Open Masters qualifying table of the 33rd Boysen-PBC International Open.

The scramble for a spot in the Masters finals heated up today as bowlers made their last minute attempts. At the top of the Men's local pool, Biboy Rivera maintained his lead with 994, the highest scored in the men's category, claiming also the overall lead. Arnold Lecaros took firm second with 966 while Asian Championship Trios Gold medalist, Benny Dytoc finished thid with 963.

Korea's Kim Tae Young snatched the pole in the overseas pool from fellow-countrymen and champion of the Youth Boy's Masters finals, Choi Bok Eum. Kim knocked down 990, just 4 pins short of the overall leader Rivera while Choi dropped to second with 959. Chinese Taipei's Tai Chia Huang settled for third spot with 938.

Renigning World Cup champion, C.J. Suarez of the Philippines, topped the mixed pool with 924 followed by youth bowler Jeremy Posadas with 921 and Diego Candano with 918.


In the Ladies' division, Korea's Koo Hyun Jee stood firmly in pole position and was the only bowler in the competition to surpass the 1000-mark over the 4-game qualifying with a score of 1016. The 2001 ABT Korea Leg champion, led Malaysia's National rookie, Esther Cheah, who impressed with 942 to take second spot in the overseas pool. Singapore's Rena Teng improved to take up third spot with 913.

ABF Tour Thailand semifinalist, Irene Benitez continued to top the local pool with a score of 958, 15 pins ahead of Youth Girl's Masters runner-up, Shaon Limansatoso, who totalled 943 with Liza Clutario in third spot with 910.

Another ABF Tour Thailand semifinalist, Alice Tay of Singapore lead the mixed pool with 887 followed by Korea's Nam Bo Ra with 870 and Indonesia's Sheanny Gunawan on 859.

Qualifying will end today and the qualifiers will commence their Open Masters finals over two blocks of 8 games on the 10th and 11th June. The top 3 from each category will make the cut for the stapladder finals to determine the champion.

Scores soar as overseas bowlers attempt to qualify

8th June, Manila: Scores were beginning to soar as overseas bowlers made their attempts to qualify for the Masters finals of the 33rd Boysen-PBC International Open at GVCC Bowling Centre on Day 12.

Sensational 17 year-old Choi Bok Eum of Korea, who just bagged the Youth Boy's Masters title last night, shot to the lead of the Men's Open Masters qualifying table with a score of 959 as every overseas bowlers scrambled to qualify for the finals.

Chinese Taipei's Tai Chia Hung took second position with 938 ahead of ABT Hong Kong leg champion, Shaun Ng of Singapore in third spot with 937. Triple Busan Asian Games Gold medalist, Remy Ong finished fourth with 935 while Malaysian Open champion, Daniel Lim came in fifth with 927.

Overnight leader Kim Tae Young's score of 892 had dropped him right down to the last position of the 36 qualifiers for the Masters finals in the men's Open category.

Meanwhile, Filipino Biboy Rivera continue to lead the local pool with 994, the highest for the men's category, ahead of Arnold Lecaros, who score 966. National squad member, Benny Dytoc took third spot with 963. R.J. Bautista, who missed the perfect game yesterday after stringing together 11 consecutive strikes on to see a solid pin-10 in his final throw and ended up with a 299, took fourth spot with 957.


In the Ladies' division, 2001 ABT Korea leg champion, Koo Hyun Jee maintained her lead in the overseas pool with 1016 and the only bowler to pass the 1,000 mark over the 4-game qualifying rounds. Comfortably in second came Malaysia's national rookie, Esther Cheah, who recorded 942 while Korea's Kim Hyo Mi took third spot with 908.

Filipinas, Irene Benitez continued to top the ladies' local pool with a score of 958 ahead of Youth Girl's Masters first runner-up, Sharon Limansantoso in second with 943. Third place went to 2003 World Championship Trios Gold and Masters Silver medalist, Liza Clutario on 910.

Former World Ranking Masters champion, Jennifer Tan of Singapore finished in a lowly 21st place, joined by teammate and 7th Asian Youth Triple Gold medalist, Valerie Teo in 22nd while last year's Singapore Open

Champion, Evelyn Chan also struggling in 3rd place. The Singaporeans will need to do better if they were to assure themselves of a place in the Masters finals and a chance to make the cut for the ABF Tour Philippines leg as well.

Qualifying will end tomorrow, June 9 when the Masters finals will be played on June 10 and 11.

Korean youths score double in Masters Finals

7th June, Manila: Choi Bok Eum and Gye Min Young scored a double for Korea when they emerged as Boy's and Girl's Youth Masters champions of the 33rd Boysen-PBC International Open at GVCC Bowling Centre this evening.

The 17 year-old southpaw member of the Korean Youth camp from Seoul, clinched the Boy's Youth Masters' title with a total score of 2127, just 15 pins ahead of local youth, Jonas Baltazar in a thrilling final.

Despite rolling his first-ever perfect game at the start of the 10-game finals, the 21 year-old Baltazar could not topple the champion and had to settle for second with 2112 ahead of another Korean youth, Kim Jong Wook, who finished third with 2095.

Top qualifier, Markwin Tee of PBAP-Bowlmart could only manage fourth with 2086 followed by Thailand's Somjed K. who totalled 2075 for fifth spot while 2002 Youth Boy's champion, Frederick Ong took sixth position with 2049.

In the youth girls division, Gye Min Young gave Korea a double when she outclassed the field of 12 finalists to bag the title on a total of 2141 just 8 pins ahead of top qualifier and 6th Asian Schools two Gold medalist, Sharon Limansantoso, who settled for second with 2133 despite putting up a late charge with 210 and 232 in her last two games.

SLETBA-Bowlmart's Apple Posadas did well to snatch third place with 2109 after scoring 224 and 254 in the final two games. Hwang Seon Ok of Korea scored 2014 to take fourth spot.

Korean bowlers dominate Ladies' and Men's overseas qualifying pool

6th June, Manila: Korean bowlers dominated the overseas qualifying pool of the 33rd Boysen-PBC International Open on Day 10 with Koo Hyun Jee and Kim Tae Young leading the Ladies' and Men's division.

2002 Hong Kong Open runner-up, Koo Hyun Jee was the first Korean national team member to take to the lanes at Green Valley Country Club Bowling Centre since arriving late last night and immediately found lines of 235, 255, 279 and 247 for a total of 1016 to top the overseas pool and take the overall lead in the Ladies Open Masters qualifying table.

The 24 year-old, who won two Gold medals in the 17th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship in Manila last year at the same venue, will be a strong title contender during the Masters finals.

Filipinas, Irene Benitez continued to top the local pool with 958 ahead of Sharon Limansantoso on 943 while 2003 World Championship Trios Gold and Masters Silver medalist, Liza Clutario remained third with 910.

Meanwhile, Kim Tae Young of Korea also topped the Men's overseas pool with a moderate score of 892 ahead of World Youth Singles Gold mdealist, Yannaphon Larpapharat of Thailand in second with 879.

The 21 year-old, who lost to ABF Tour Thailand leg champion, Ahmed Shaheen in Round 2 on home ground, will be hoping to do better here during the Masters finals and make the cut for the Philippines leg. Third position went to Hong Kong's Ernest Lok with 871.

There is no change in the local pool with Biboy Rivera maintaining the lead with 994 followed by Arnold Lecaros in second with 966 while Benny Dytoc also remained in third spot with 963.

There were no changes in the the other of the categories' qualifying positions. Qualifying continues till June 9 when the Masters finals will be played on June 10 and 11. The top 16 Asian men and women of the Open Masters finals will qualify for the ABF Tour - Philippines which will be held on June 12 - 13.

Irene Benitez takes over pole, Biboy Rivera maintains lead

5th June, Manila: ABF Tour Thailand leg second runner-up, Irene Benitez Benitez took over pole position of the Ladies' Open Masters qualifying table of the 33rd Boysen-PBC International Open while Biboy Rivera remained lead in the Men's leaderboard.

Benitez, a member of the Philippine national team, did well in the Thailand Open last month finishing fifth, took over pole position in the Ladies' Open Masters qualifying table with an impressive 958.

The 33 year-old businesswomen from Paranaque, who also made the semifinals of the ABF Tour Thailand but lost to first runner-up, Valerie Teo of Singapore, will be hoping to improve on her performance in the Masters finals.

Overnight leader, Sharon Limansantoso dropped to second in the table with 943 with World Championship Masters Silver medalist, Liza Clutario in third with 910. Early leader and 2003 World Cup runner-up, Jojo Canare took fourth spot with 908 while Filipino youth, Apple Posadas finished in the top 5 in fifth position with 839.

There is no change in the Men's local pool with Biboy Rivera maintaining the lead with 994 followed by Arnold Lecaros in second with 966. 2001 SEA Games Team Gold medalist, Benny Dytoc remained third with 963 ahead of national bowler, Chester King and Richie Poblete tieing in fourth position on a score of 950.

ABT Grand Slam Champion and a member of the Philippine national team coaching panel, Purvis Granger will be defending his title which he won last year.


Filipino Miquel "Mike" Crisol of TBAM, who was the first runner-up in the 2003 Indonesia Open Graded division, shot to the lead of the Men's Graded division with a score 963, dislodging early leader Arvin Fernando, who dropped to second spot with 934 while Mar Serac took up third spot with 922.

Jaymee Bautista of ATBA remained top of the Ladies' Graded division on a score of 831 ahead of Girlie Solis of TBAM, who knocked down 793 for second followed by Susan San Diego of PBA with 789.

Sharon Limansantoso shared top spot with Cheche Abrantes on a score of 891 as the latter improved her score today followed by Ditas Red in third position with 817.

Meanwhile, 2003 Singapore Open Youth Champion, Markwin Tee shot to the lead of the Youth Boy's qualifying table with an impressive 934 on Day 9 of the Boysen-PBC Open at Green Valley Country Club Bowling Centre. A member of the national and youth squad, Tee had lines of 215, 225, 237 and 255 to take over the lead from overnight leader Jonas Baltasar, who scored 930 for second spot followed by Adrian Saguinsin with 928.

Bowlers from Thailand and the Korean national team are already in Manila and will be making their attempts tomorrow while the overseas participants are expected to arrive from Monday, June 7 onwards. The scores will begin to rise as they take to the lanes for their qualifying attempts which will continue through to June 9 when the Masters finals will be played on June 10 and 11.

The top 16 Asian men and women of the Open Masters finals will qualify for the ABF Tour - Philippines which will be held on June 12 - 13.

4th June, Manila: Sharon Limansantoso and Biboy Rivera are the new leaders in the Ladies' and Men's Open Masters qualifying table on Day 8 of the 33rd Boysen-PBC International Open.

Limansantoso, who hails from Indonesia and currently bowling under the coaching of Johnson Cheng in Manila, became the new leader of the Ladies' Open Masters qualifying table on Day 8.

The 6th Asian Schools Singles and Masters Gold medalist knocked down 943 from World Championship Silver medalist, Liza Clutario in second spot with 910. Early leader, and 2003 World Cup runner-up, Jojo Canare dropped to third with 908.

The lead in the Men's division also changed hands when 17th Asian Championship Doubles Gold medalist, Biboy Rivera claimed top spot with a score of 994 from overnight leader, Arnold Lecaros.

Rivera, who has 20 perfect games to his credit, hope to do well on home turf after finishing 2nd runner-up in the ABF Tour Malaysia leg in March this year. Lecaros, a former national youth member, settled for second with a score of 966 with Benny Dytoc claiming third spot with 963.

There were not much changes in the qualifying table of the Youth categories with Jonas Baltasar leading the Youth Boys with 930. Jeff Chan and Jomar Jumapao finished second and third with 927 and 923 respectively. Sharon Limansantoso continued to lead the Youth Girls division with 891 ahead of Cheche Abrantes (891) in second and Ditas Red (817) in third.


Meanwhile, the Senior Masters finals were competed earlier today with Philip Rillorta of Megallanes Bowling Association, taking the Men's crown with a score of 2141 ahead of Benny Almazar of Pasig Bowling Association in second with 2083.

Another Pasig Bowling Association member, Steve Robles settled for third place when he scored 2036 in the 10-game finals with handicap. Nobu Takimura (AMBA-2019) and Boy Cruz (TCBA-1998) completed the top 5 in fourth and fifth positions respectively.

The trophies and prizes were presented to the winners by Tournament Director Mr. Roland Salariosa, who also gave away the prizes to the Ladies' Senior Masters winners.

Carmen Talosig, also of Megallanes Bowling Association, emerged the champion of the Ladies' Senior Masters after she scored 1978 from Butch Regodon of Quezon City Bowling Association, who had a score of 1881.

Tenpin Bowlers Association of Makati's Amy Gan settled for third place with a score of 1877, just 8 pins ahead of fourth-placed Boosie Apuan (TBAM-PRIMA) on 1869 while Edna Beltran, also of TBAM-PRIMA finished fifth with 1859.

Qualifying continues through to 9th June and the Masters Finals will be played on the 10th and 11th June. The top 16 Asian men and Women finalists will make the cut for the inaugural ABF Tour Philippines scheduled for the 12th and 13th June.

Arnold Lecaros takes over lead, Jojo Canare remains top

3rd June, Manila: Arnold Lecaros of the Philippines, took over the lead in the Men's Open Masters qualifying leaderboard of the 33rd Boysen-PBC International Open at the GVCC Bowling Centre while Jojo Canare remained top of the Ladies' table.

Arnold, a former national youth team member and fifth two days ago, set the lanes at the Green Valley Country Club Bowling Centre on fire to knock down 966 over his 4-game qualifying round to top the Men's Open Masters table. Filipino national squad member, Chester King also improved to take up second spot with 950 pushing down early leader Joonee Gatchalian to third position on 939.

Jeff Chan and Marwin Tee have also subsquently dropped two spots to occupy fourth and fifth places with 930 and 928 respectively. Renigning World Cup Champion, C. J. Suarez squeezed into sixth position with 924.

Richie Poblete (7th-921), Diego Candano (8th-918), Gene Basa (9th-916) and Biboy Rivera (10th-915) made up the top 10 places in the local table.

There was no changes in the ladies' division with 2003 World Cup runner-up, Jojo Canare maintaining her pole position with a score of 908 followed by Irene Benitez Benitez in second on 847 while Trixie De Luna and Kathlynn Lopez tied in third with 831.


Meanwhile, another former national youth member, Arvin Fernando grabbed the limelight of the competition so far when he topped the Men's Graded Masters qualifying table with an impressive score of 934, ahead of Marc Serac in second on 922 and Filipino youth, Jomar Jumapao in third spot with 917.

Fernando is also the current All-Events leader with a total of 1788 (over 8 games) and Doubles leader with Chucky Marcelo with a total score of 891.

Qualifying continues through to 9th June and the Masters Finals will be played on the 10th and 11th June. The top 16 Asian men and Women finalists will make the cut for the inaugural ABF Tour Philippines scheduled for the 12th and 13th June.

Jojo Canare, Joonee Gatchalian takes early lead in qualifying table

1st June, Manila: Jojo Canare and Joonee Gatchalian of the Philippines took an early lead in the Women's and Men's Open Masters qualifying table of the 33rd Boysen-PBC International Open underway at the GVCC Bowling Centre.

Canare, the 2003 World Cup runner-up, scored an impressive 908 to top the Women's Open Masters local qualifying pool ahead of ABF Tour Thailand semi finalist, Irene Benitez Benitez in second with 847.

Third place was shared by Trixie De Luna and Kathlynn Lopez, who both knocked down 831. Indonesia's Sharon Limansantoso, who bowls as a member PBC-Bowlmart, took up fifth spot with 826. Sharon also topped the Girl's Youth Masters qualifying table with a higher score of 891.

Apple Posadas (PHI-823) and World Championship Silver medalist, Liza Clutario (PHI-811) rounded up the the top 8 in seventh and eighth positions respectively. Asian Ranked No. 1, Liza del Rosario of the Philippines, who won the Masters' title last year, is the defending champion.

In the Men's division, Joonee Gatchalia took the lead with a score of 939, just 9 pins ahead of Jeff Chan, who had 930 to his credit. Markwin Tee took up third spot with 928 followed by Richie Poblete in fourth position on 921.

Arnold Lecaros (PHI-917), Gene Basa (PHI-916), Biboy Rivera (PHI-915), Chester King (PHI-909), Tyrone Oogpauco (PHI-906) and Frederick Ong (PHI-898) completed the top 10 from fifth to tenth places respectively.

Only two overseas bowlers have so far made their qualifying attempts in this year's annual championship. Masao Ohyama of Japan, heads the overseas table with 844 followed by Eric Daos of USA in second with 795. Most of the overseas participants will arrive Manila toward this weekend and competition will definitely heat up.
