Seong Nam, Kuala Lumpur advances to Doubles medal rounds

28th October, Shah Alam: Squad A leader of Won Jong Hyeok and Oh Gi Tae of Seong Nam advanced to the Men Doubles medal round of the 36th Asian Intercity Bowling Championships unchallenged while Nur Irdina Batrisya Bt Mat Aris and Afiqah Kamilia Bt Ali took over top spot in the Women's division.

Won and Singles gold medalist, Oh, who totaled a sizzling 1837 in the first squad, remained unchallenged and will advance to the medal rounds as top-seed. Singles silver medalist, Muhd Nur Aiman and national squad member, Syafiq Ridhwan of Petaling Jaya took second spot with 1804.

The top 3 in Squad A remained in their respective positions with Adri Wafiq Hussin and Muhammad Fazrin Khairul Faizi of Shah Alam A in third with 1757. Squad B leader of Muhammad Azizi Naim Jabar and Noor Afizal Azizan secured the fourth and final medal round spot with 1743.

Alger Pak and Stanley Lau of New Territories, who was fourth in the first squad missed the cut by 17 pins in fifth position with 1726. Seong Nam will face Shah Alam A2 in the best-of-3 Bakers' Format first semi-final match.


Men Doubles top 4, Petaling Jaya 2, Kuching 2, Shah Alam A1 and Shah Alam B2

Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam A will meet in the other semi-final match. The winners will proceed to the title match while the losers will be awarded a bronze medal each.

Meanwhile, Nur Irdina Batrisya Bt Mat Aris and Afiqah Kamilia Bt Ali amassed a total of 1631 in the second squad to overhaul Squad A leader of Nura Zulkifli and Jerlyn Lam of Singapore. The Singaporean pair settled for second with 1552. Singles gold medalist, Zatil Iman and Faten Najihah Ahmad Faik, who finished second to Kuala Lumpur, claimed third spot overall with 1545.

The first Kuala Lumpur pair of Helena Bt Jamal and Nur Nais Falilnesa Bt Isman, clinched the fourth and final medal round spot with 1543. Heena and Nur Nais will face their team-mates, Nur Irdina and Afiqah Kamilia in the all-Kuala Lumpur semi-final match.

Singapore will square off with Shah Alam A in the other semi-final match in a best-of-3 Baker's Format. The winners will proceed to the title match while the losers will be awarded a bronze medal each. The medal rounds for all divisions will commence tomorrow at 9.00 am local time.
