6th May, Manama: 2023 Amir Cup first runner-up, Naif Oqab of UAE topped the qualifying standings of the 3rd Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Bowling Tournament underway at Funland Bowl ahead of two Bahrainis, Yousif Falah and Khalid Sameer.

The left-handed Emirati rolled 1184 and 1081 two 5-games series to lead the standings with 2265 total pinfalls. 2016 Amir Cup first runner-up and top local bowler, Yousif Falah finished second with 2123 from 1106 and 1017 series.

Bahraini youth, Khalid Sameer did well to take up third spot with 2113 while Mohammad Ismail of UAE claimed fourth spot with 2101. 2025 IBF World Cup Team champion and 2025 PBA Camelion Championship winner, Tun Hakim of Malaysia impressed with a fifth-place finish on 2006.

A third Emirati and 2022 Amir Cup first runner-up, Ahmad AlMahri occupied sixth position with 1999. The highest ranked Bahraini, Yousif Falah temporarily hold seventh position and the highest ranked Bahraini youth qualifier is also temporarily held by Khalid Sameer.


Naif Oqab topping the qualifying standings with 2265

The top eight in the standings will earn two byes and automatically advance to Round 3 finals. Heading the second bracket of qualifiers is Emerson Gotencio of Philippines with 1984. The cut in 16th position went to Hassan AlZaabi of UAE with 1901.

Qualifiers positioned 9 to 16 will earn one bye and automatically advance to Round 2 finals. Ali AlMass of Bahrain headed the third bracket with 1900 and the cut at 24th position went to Ahmed AlKhaja of Bahrain with 1850.

Bowlers positioned 17 to 24 will qualify for Round 1 finals. They will be joined by the top 2 highest ranked female qualifiers which are currently held by Meshael A. Wahed of Saudi Arabia and Amina AlMoosa of Bahrain with 1754 and 1589.

The two highest ranked Bahraini youth not in the top and second brackets, were held by Rashid AlDalhan and Almed AlAnsari with 1810 and 1805 respectively. The two highest ranked Seniors qualifiers were Khalid AlGoud of Kuwait and Saeed Hamarain of UAE with 1840 and 1838.

Ahmed Fareed of Bahrain and Emerson Gotencio of Philippines took up the two early bird spots with 1974 and 1984. Two additional qualifiers from the one-game Desperado squad make up the 18 qualifiers for Round 1 finals.

Qualifying rounds will continue through to May 8 with Round 1 finals scheduled for May 9 at 1.00pm local time. The top 8 after the 6-games finals will be joined by qualifiers from the second bracket for Round 2 finals at 4.00pm.

The top 8 finishers in Round 2 will proceed to Round 3 finals, joined by the qualifiers from the top bracket. The 16 finalists will be divided into four groups over matchplay format with 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and no points for a loss.

The top 2 from each group will proceed to Round 4 finals divided into two groups, again contested over matchplay format. The winner of each group and the second-paced player will advance to the semi-finals and final shootout to determine the champion.
