16th April, Petaling Jaya: Malaysian National Podium Squad members, Tsen Fan Yew and 2024 World Cup Singles champion, Natasha Roslan took pole positions in the Men's and Women's Open Masters qualifying table of the 43rd Malaysian International Open Bowling Championships.

Last year's Youth Open Masters second runner-up, Tsen shot 778 and 707 for a 6-game aggregate of 1485 to take up top spot in the Men's Open Masters local qualifying pool. His fellow-Sarawakian, Chong Jun Foo of Hero Bowling, had led with 1475 but settled for second.

Another National Podium Squad member, Syafiq Ridhwan finished third with 1457 while reigning Malaysian National champion, Muhammad Syazirol Shamsuddin occupied fourth position with 1452. 2024 IBF World Cup Team gold medalists, Ahmad Muaz and Rafiq Ismail finished fifth and sixth with 1442 and 1439 respectively.

In the overseas pool, newcomer and Youth Open Masters second runner-up, Noel Hagland Torgersen of Sweden claimed top spot with 1447. Lee Tak Man of Macau, China took second position with 1417 followed Luke Doyle of Australia in third with 1351 and Abdulrzzaq Mohammad of Kuwait in fourth with 1335.

The top 4 local and top 4 overseas qualifiers will earn a bye and skip Round 1 Finals on April 19. Qualifiers positioned 5 to 12 in both the local and overseas pool along with qualifiers positioned 1 to 16 in the Mixed Pool and 3 qualifiers from the Desperado Squad will contest Round 1 Finals over 8 games.

In the Women's division, IBF World Cup Singles champion and last year's second runner-up, Natasha Roslan topped the local pool with 1379 followed by Faten Najihah Bte Ahmad Faik in second with 1372. Siti Safiyah Amirah occupied third spot with 1370.

2024 PWBA Bowler of the Year, Sin Li Jane, who was in the top 3, slipped out to fourth with 1354 and Nur Hazirah Binti Ramli rounding out the top 5 with 1341. In the overseas pool, Singapore's Nur Irdina claimed pole position with 1317.

Newcomer, Haru Suzuki of Japan took second position with 1282 while another Singaporean, Shirlene Wong finished third with 1267. Philippines' Dyan Coronacion and Ning Tay of Singapore completed the top 5 with 1256 and 1251 respectively.

The top 3 local and top 3 overseas qualifiers will earn a bye and skip Round 1 Finals. Qualifiers positioned 4 to 10 in both the local and overseas pool along with qualifiers positioned 1 to 10 in the Mixed Pool and top 2 from Desperado Squad will contest Round 1 Finals over 8 games.

Qualifying rounds will run through to April 18 with the last squad at 22:30hrs. A one-game Desperado Squad will be held for the top 3 Men's Open, top 2 Women's Open and top 3 Men's Graded to make the Masters Finals.
