When top seed and four gold medalist, Choi Bok Eum of Korea beat No. 3 seed, Wu Siu Hong in the first match 205-170, it appeared that Korea would win all 12 gold medals at the games. But Wu fought back gallantly with five strikes-in-a-row in the second match to draw level on total pins.

All Choi needed was a mark in the tenth and final frame but rolled a big split. Wu doubled in the eighth and ninth frames and despite failing to spare his final frame, the Hong Kong national bowler managed to win the match, 233-190 and sealed the gold medal 403-395 two games total.

"We had won team silver at two previous games, in Macau in 2005 and in Hong Kong in 2009 and the victory is certainly a sweet one," said the 29-year-old Wu. "I struggled to find the line on the short oil pattern that Choi chose.

"Although I made numerous line change as well as ball change, it didn't help in the first game. But I kept my focus on the job and felt that I have a chance knowing he didn't score high either in the first game. This win is not only for Hong Kong but also for China."

Meanwhile it was an all-Korean affair in the Women's division. Top seed and World Championships All Events gold medalist, Son Yun Hee proved she is a class above all. She sailed past challenger and No. 3 seed, Lee Na Young, 546-419 in the finals to win her sixth gold medal of the compeition.

The lead changed hands again as 2011 Singapore Open champion, Jung Da Wun surged into the front with Baek still in second, 8 pins adrift. Son Yun Hee, who had a poor start, gradually moved up the field to stay within striking distance with the leading pack.

Kim regained the lead after the fifth game with a big game of 278 as Son closed in further to take over second spot, 15 pins behind her compatriot and Lee in third.

An open frame from Son in the fourth frame appeared to favour Kim as she had rolled three double strikes in the sixth and final game. But Son bounced back by striking up to the tenth frame.

Another strike would have sealed the gold all to herself but left a solid pin 10 which she spared for a 224 game. Kim too would have won the gold but left pin 7 in her bonus frame to end with 209 and tied at 1347.

Lee could not string together enough strikes ending with 190 to settle for the bronze medal with 1305 while Jung and Baek finished fourth and fifth with 1281 and 1271 respectively. Misaki Mukotani was the nearest to the five Koreans and Japan's best finisher taking up sixth position with 1243.
