Finn takes over lead

12th December, Doha: 2022 champion and the second perfect gamer, Tomas Kayhko of Finland took over the lead of the qualifying standings of the H.H. Amir Cup Bowling Championships 2024 dislodging overnight leader, Talal Al Al Marri of Qatar into second.

Kayhko, who rolled the tournament's second perfect game of his 222, 300 and 299 series and won the Day 7 High Series Award with 821, did not improve his lowest series of 695 until he took to the lanes for Squad 38 today and shot 740 series en-route to the top of the standings.

Day 4 and 5 High Series Award winner, Talal Ali settled for second after leading for the past six days with 2274. 2023 World Championships Trios gold medalist, Tony Wong of Hong Kong, China remained in third with 2236 while his team-mate. Ivan Tse improved to take up fourth with 2230.

Canadian newcomer, Nathan Ruest-Lajoie notched up a superb 759 series to take his 9-game tally to 2206 and made the top bracket in fifth position. 2011 champion, Dominic Barrett of England dropped down to the cut in 6th position with 2196.

Kuwait's Mostafa Almousawi, who made the cut in sixth last night, slipped out to finish seventh position with 2184 as defending champion, Kim Bolleby of Sweden continued to slide down to eighth with 2178. Noel Haglund Torgersen of Sweden and Timmy Tan of Malaysia rounded out the top 10 with 2176 and 2160.

Nora Lyana Nastasia of Malaysia and Mohammed Al Saud of Saudi Arabia made Step 1 Finals as the top 2 qualifiers in the first two days of qualifying rounds. The cut in 28th position is held by Qatari youth, Abdulla Mohammed Al Dosary with 2104. With four more squads remaining, the cut could go up to as much as 230 over.

Qualifiers positioned 7 to 28 along with top 2 qualifiers from the first two days of qualifying rounds and top 2 Qatari youths qualifiers not in 7 to 28 positions plus top 2 local Qatari qualifiers and top 2 from the desperado squad will contest Step 1 Finals on Friday, December 13.

The top 20 with the highest score after 8 games will be joined by the top 6 seeded qualifiers for Step 2 Finals. The top 5 with the highest score will advance to the Stepladder Finals Shoot Out Step 3, 4 and 5 to determine this year's champion. Qualifying will end after Squad 42 at 23.30 hrs and will be followed by a one-game Desperado squad.
