Singaporean eyeing second high series award

6th March, Doha: Squad B winner and top qualifier, Muhd Jaris Goh of Singapore set course to win his second high series award after topping Squad D first block qualifying round of the PBA-WBT H.H. Emir Cup 2019.

Mohammed Jamal blazed the lanes at Qatar Bowling Centre with a scorching 268 in the opening game to lead Singapore's Timothy Tham by four pins as Jaris Goh also started well with 256 to take up third spot.

Jamal's lead lasted only one game when he managed 198 in the second game as Jaris Goh surged into the lead with 227. Tham remain in second with 204. Like in Squad B, the Singaporean set a blistering pace with 212 and 257 in his next two games to open up a gap of 68 pins.

His compatriot, Tham continued to trail Jaris Goh with 202 and 214. Qatar's Khaled Al-Sada and Kuwait's Mostafa Almousawi kept pace with the leading duo in third and fourth as Jamal failed to recover.

Jaris Goh staked his claim for yet another high series award when he ended the first block with 203 and 224 to lead with 1379. 2017 World Championships Trios gold medallist, Michael Mak of Hong Kong stormed home with 270 and 223 to snatch second spot with 1307.

Saoud Al-Qayed of Qatar finished third with 1296 ahead of Al-Sada in fourth with 1293 while Almousawi completed the top 5 with 1282. Tham ended poorly with 181 to slip down to seventh with 1266 behind his team-mate, Joel Tan in sixth with 1276.

The players will resume with their second block of six games tomorrow morning. A one-game desperado squad will be held to add four additional qualifiers to Step 1 finals which will follow immediately.
