Korean student takes over top spot

28th June, Macau: Kang Jae Hee of Korean National Sports University took over top spot of Men's Open overseas pool qualifying table of the 2024 Macao China International Open Bowling Championships while Shinta Ceysaria of Jawa Timur, Indonesia took the Women's Open division.

Kang, making his debut fired back-to-back 734 and 702 three-games series to become the new leader with 1436. Leader for the past three days, Nu'man Syahmi of Singapore settled for second with 1428 while early pace-setter, Ivan Tse of Hong Kong, China also dropped one spot down to third on 1417.

Tony Wong of Hong Kong, China hauled himself up from the Mixed pool to fourth position with 1407 but missed the top 3 bracket by 10 pins. Stanley Lau of Confianza, Hong Kong rounded out the top 5 with 1404. There are no changes in the local front with Lam Iek Long remaining firmly in the lead with 1444.

Lee Tak Man and Lei Hok Hin will joined their fellow countrymen, Lam for a bye and automatically advance to Round 2 finals scheduled for Sunday, 30 June. Joyan Khoo of Singapore headed the Mixed pool with 1373 while the cut in 12th position went to Chen Te Shuan of Cinese Taipei with 1340.

In the Women's division, Shinta Ceysaria of Jawa Timur, Indonesia also became the new leader after she amassed a 6-game aggregate of 1255 (631 and 624). Overnight leader and defending champion, Kang Hye Rim of Korea dropped one spot to second with 1248.

Chinese Taipei's Su Shu Wen did well to take up third position in the top 3 bracket with 1242. Early leader and last year's runner-up, Yuri Sato dropped out of the top bracket with 1239. Ex-international, Gigi Leung of Hong Kong completed the top 5 with 1237.

KNSU's Yun A-Reum headed the Mixed pool with 1201 while the cut in 13th position is held by Chinese Taipei's Chiu Yi Hsien with 1119. There are two remaining squads before it ends late tonight. A one-game Desperado squad will be held only for Men's Open division to give the top 3 scorers a chance to make the finals.

Women's Open Round 1 Masters finals will be contested tomorrow morning at 9.30am, the Men's Open Round 1 Masters finals at 2.30pm and the Women's Grade and Men's Grade A Masters finals in the evening at 6.00pm.
