Official sports program approved

13th July 2011, Tokyo: The Sports Program for the 17th Asian Games was approved by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Executive Board held at Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa, Tokyo confirming tenpin bowling as a sport in the games.

Doubt as to whether tenpin bowling will be included is now erased as the event will take place at an existing bowling center without building a new one.

Two new sports, Softball has been incorporated under baseball for gender equality and soft tennis as a discipline of tennis.

Also, Archery (compound) and Triathlon (mixed team relay) were added to events program. Archery compound became one of the official events program since 1995 World Archery Championships held in Jakarta and became first official events program of Asian Games.

This archery event addition to Asian Games official sports program will give Asian National Olympic Committees more chance to win a medal because India, Iran and Malaysia are strong in this events program.

Softball competition will take place at baseball venue and soft tennis competition will take place at tennis venue respectively without constructing new venues. So, there will not be any economic burden on the Host City.
