UAE bags final Gold medal

9th December, Doha: UAE bagged the final Gold medal of the 3rd West Asian Games when topseed, Nayef Al-Abadla defeated Qatar's Mubarak Al-Muraikhi, 422-392 in the two-game stepladder finals which concluded on Friday.

Nayef Al-Abadla completed the second block matchplay finals topping the field with 3736 over a total of 16 games before the stepladder finals.

The champion took the first match, 224-219 against challenger and third-seed, Mubarak Al-Muraikhi and edged his opponent, 198-173 in the second match to give UAE their only Gold medal of the championship.

Mubarak settled for the Silver despite knocking out teammate and first block leader, Bandar Al-Shafi, 245-235 in the first stepladder match.

The All Events Gold medalist and second-seed dropped to third to win the Bronze medal. Fourth position went to Qatar's Abdulla Al-Qattan, who totaled 3497 in the earlier matchplay finals.

Host nation, Qatar ended the championship as Overall Champion winning 4 Gold, 3 Silver, 2 Bronze medals and three 4th placings with 36 points. UAE took second spot with 2 Gold, 3 Silver, 2 Bronze medals and a 4th placing on 24 points.

Kuwait finished third with 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 3 Bronze medals and a 4th placing on 15 points while the only other country to medals was Bahrain with 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze medal and three 4th placings for 13 points.

Qatari leads first block Masters

8th December, Doha: All Events Gold medalist, Bandar Al-Shafi of Qatar led the first block Masters finals of the 3rd West Asian Games on Thursday from UAE's Nayef Al-Abadla in second by just 10 pins with teammate, Saeed Al-Hajri in third.

Team and All Events Gold medalist, Bandar Al-Shafi led the Men's Masters first block finals over the long oil condition despite only winning four of the 8-game Round-robin matchplay. Bandar posted lines of 205, 231, 225, 238, 258, 185, 222 and 257 plus 40 pins bonus, gave him a total of 1861 to lead the field of 16 finalists.

Nayef Al-Abadla of UAE won seven matches but had to settle for second but just 10 pins adrift on 1851. Singles Gold medalist, Saeed Al-Hajri finished a distant third another 70 pins away on 1781. Shaker Al-Hassan of UAE and Abdulla Al-Qattan of Qatar rounded up the top 5 to share fifth spot on 1768.

The men will continue their second block of 8 games over short oil condition at the end of which the top 3 will make the cut for the stepladder finals.

Four Gold medals for Qatar

7th December, Doha: Qatar bagged their third and fourth Gold medals of the 3rd West Asian Games on Wednesday evening when the men dominated the Team of 5 event while Bandar Al-Shafi topped the All Events.

The Qatar team comprising of Ahmed Shaheen, Abdulla Al-Qattan, Mubarak Al-Muraikhi, Bandar Al-Shafi and Singles Gold medalist, Saeed Al-Hajri took the lead from the second game onwards to build up a lead 26 pins when the first block of the Team of 5 event ended on short oil.

When the Qatari started the second block, they were in superb form to stretch the lead to 102 pins by the fourth game. UAE men were second with Kuwait another 60 pins adrift.

The men wrapped up the event to bag their second consecutive and third in the championship by a comf0rtable margin of 281 pins ahead of their nearest rival with a total of 6383.

Sayed Al-Hashemi, Hussain Al-Suwaidi (Mahmood Al-Attar), Sultan Al-Marzouqi, Shaker Al-Hassan and Nayef Al-Abadla settled for the Silver medal with 6102 while Kuwait's Fadhel Al-Mousawi, Rakan Al-Ameeri, Basel Al-Anzi, Mohammed Al-Rgeebah and Khaled Al-Dubyyan only managed 5881 in third to take home the Bronze medal.

Bandar Al-Shafi won the fourth Gold medal for Qatar when he topped the All Events standings with 5287 from 24 games (Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team event). Singles Gold medalist, Saeed Al-Hajri gave a 1-2 finish for Qatar to take the Silver with 5073 while Kuwait's Khaled Al-Dubyyan won the Bronz emedal with 5028. The top 16 made the cut for the Masters finals with the 16th and final spot going to Sayed Al-Hashemi of UAE with 4751.

Qatar bounces back with Gold and Bronze

6th December, Doha: Qatar bounced back after a dismal showing in the doubles event to bag the Gold and Bronze medal of the Men's Trios event of the 3rd West Asian Games Tuesday evening.

After a disappointing run in the doubles event on Monday, Qatar's Bandar Al-Shafi, Mubarak Al-Muraikhi and Singles Gold medalist, Saeed Al-Hajri returned with a vengence and put up a superb performance to bag the Men's Trios Gold medal with a total 3819, 111 pins clear of their nearest rival.

The trio started the event trailing the other Qatari pair by 101 pins after the first game but a high game of 729 in the second saw them surged to the lead while Ahmed Shaheen, Abdulla Al-Qattan and Khalifa Al-Kubaisi scored a poor 485.

The champion never looked back from then on to cruise to a comfortable win with Kuwait's Fadhel Al-Mousawi, Khaled Al-Dubyyan and Mohammed Al-Rgeebah snatching the Silver but 19 pins on 3713. The early leader settled for third but gave Qatar the Bronze medal with 3694.

UAE's Mahmood Al-Attar, Khalifa Al-Abadla and Shaker Al-Hassan finished fourth with 3596 ahead of Saudi Arabia's Sayed Al-Hashemi, Hussain Al-Suwaidi and Sultan Al-Marzouqi in fifth spot with 3537.

Bandar Al-Shafi leads the All Events after 12 games with a total of 3925 followed by Singles Gold medalist, Saeed Al-Hajri in second with 3796. UAE's Nayef Al-Abadla finished third with 3772.

Qatar moved to top the Overall Medal tally with 17 points on 2 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze and two 4th placings with UAE in second with 14 points on 1 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze medal and a 4th placing. Kuwait and Bahrain shared third spot with 12 points each.

Kuwait dominates doubles event

5th December, December: Kuwait was the surprise package on the second day of the 3rd West Asian Games as their men took the Gold and Silver medals of the men's doubles while UAE overcame favorites, Bahrain in the women division.

Rakan Al-Ameeri and Khaled Dubyyan of Kuwait, totaled 2570 to win their first Gold medal and capped off a fabulous day when the other Kuwaiti pair, Fadhel Al-Mousawi and Mohammed Al-Rgeebah finished second, 37 pins adrift on 2533 total.

The highest series of 1314 for the event, posted by Fadhel Al-Mousawi was not enough to topple his teammates when his partner only managed 1219. Rakan posted 1294 while his partner scored 1276 for the win.

UAE's Nayef Al-Abadla and ABF Tour Philippines leg champion, Shaker Al-Hassan finished third with 2497 to take home the Bronze medal ahead of host nation, Qatar. Bandar Al-Shafi and Mubarak Al-Muraikhi came in fourth, 11 pins adrift on 2486.

Meanwhile, UAE's Rahma Al-Sharqi and Hind Al-Hammdi also upset favorites, Bahrain to win the Women's doubles Gold medal when the duo posted 1925 to edge Singles Gold medalist, Nadia Akeel Al-Awadhi and Marjan Habib of Bahrain by 15 pins.

Nadia and Marjan could only totaled 1910 but finished 93 pins ahead of teammates, Mariam Habib and Noora Sultan for the Silver medal. The second Bahraini pair totaled 1817 for the Bronze medal.

Bahrain also finished fourth when Yasmin Al-Awadhi and Fatima Al-Qaseer amassed 1639. There will be no Trios, Team of 5 and Masters events for the women. More information can be found at 3rd West Asian Games website.

Qatar, Bahrain wins opening event

4th December, December: Qatar's Saeed Al-Hajri and Nadia Al-Amadhi of Bahrain opened the 3rd West Asian Games winning the Men's and Women's Singles Gold medals at Qatar International Bowling Center.

Saeed, who despite scoring a low game in the second of the 6-games singles event, the Qatar National bowler had enough higher games to make up for it to snatch victory with a total of 1361. UAE's Mahmood Al-Attar finished second, just 15 pins adrift in second to win the Silver.

2004 Emir Cup champion, Abdulla Al-Qattan settled for the bronze medal another 15 pins away with 1331. Qatar bowlers showed their capabilities when Mubarak Al-Muraikhi, Bandar Al-Shafi and 3 times World Champion, Ahmedd Shaheen occupied fourth to sixth positions in the field of 39 bowlers.

ABF Tour Philippines leg champion, Shaker Al-Hassan of UAE, finished seventh with 1299 ahead of Rashed Al-Anazi of Saudi Arabia in eighth with 1286. Fadhel Al-Mousawi of Kuwait and AMF World Cup semifinalist, Badr Al-Sheikh of Suadi Arabia completed the top 10.

AMF World Cup quaterfinalist, Nadia Al-Awadhi of Bahrain easily took the Women's Singles Gold when she outclassed a field 19 women bowlers with a 95-pin margin. Nadia totalled 1091 in her 6-game event ahead of UAE's Hind Al-Hammdi in second with 996.

The Bronze medal went to Kuwaiti, Nora Al-Roudan scoring 969 for third place. Bahrain's Mariam Habib, Noora Sultan and Yasmin Al-Awadhi finished fourth to sixth positions.

The singles event was played on long oil condition while the Doubles will be contested over short oil conditions on Monday, 5th December. More information can be found at 3rd West Asian Games website.
