Suzuna, who finished seventh to squeeze into the top 8 stepladder finals, went all the way to claim the title with a scinitillating performance in front of the home crowd. The champion knocked out eighth-seed, Esther Cheah of Malaysia, sixth-seed, Rie Totsuka and fifth-seed, Maki Nakano, 223-201-167-211 in the first match.
The winner then edged fourth-seed, Cherie Tan of Singapore, 205-197 and third-seed and Asian Ranked No. 1, Putty Armein of Indonesia, 228-185 in the second and third matches. Faced with Japan's top professional, Urara Himeji, Suzuna was equally impressive performance deating Urara, 237-225 to reach the finals.
Shalin Zulkifli, who finished as top-seed at the end of the 6-games block, failed to put a stop to Suzuna's fine run going down 199-245. The top 8 finalists completed the 6-games block to reach the stepladder finals. |
