Kuwaiti leads Masters Block 1

1st August, Doha: All Events gold and Team silver medalist, Nasser Alkandari of Kuwait A led the Boy's Masters first block of the 24th Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships ahead of Muhammad Affan Azmi of Malaysia B and Dylan Lam of Hong Kong A.

Team gold medalist, Sayed Abdullah of Malaysia A defeated perfect-gamer and team-mate, Muhammad Aqil Faizal, 262-217 to take the early lead. Talal Al Marri of Qatar A and All Events silver medalists, Abdulrahman Al Doseri of Qatar B both won their opening match with 258 to share second spot.

Sayed Abdullah continued to set the pace despite losing his second match with 244. Wan Muhammad Zarif Mazlan of Malaysia A won his second match with 264 to take up second spot.

Dylan Lam of Hong Kong won his second and third matches with 255 and 237 to become the new lead. Sayed slipped behind into second after failing to win his third match with 237. Lam and Sayed won their fourth match to tie top spot as Abdulrahman moved into second.

Lam led for the next three matches as All Events gold medalist, Nasser Alkandari of Kuwait A surged into second after winning from his second match up to the seventh. The Kuwaiti left-hander almost shot 300 in his final match but was contented with 298 to lead the block with 2001.

Muhammad Affan won all his eight matches contested to finish second with 1897 while Lam failed to win his final match and ending up in third with 1891. Early pace-setter, Sayed Abdullah finished fourth with 1875 while Muhammad Hafiz Azhlan of Malaysia A rounded out the top five with 1857.

The boys will resume with their second block of seven matches tomorrow at 9:00am and a position-round match to determine the top 3 proceeding to the Stepladder Shootout finals.
