Qatar, Malaysia seals Doubles gold

25th August, Jakarta: Talal Ali Al Marri and Abdulrahman Al Doseri sealed the Boy's Doubles gold medal for Qatar at the 25th Asian Junior Bowling Championships while Malaysian debutants, Nur Syahira Amani Bte Abdullah and Helena Bte Jamal of Malaysia snatched the Girl's gold in their final game.

Vong Cheng Hong and Lucio Marcello Chiu of Macau, China had topped the Doubles opening squad with a splendid 2585 with Vong posting 1339 and Chiu contributing 1246. The first Qatar A pair of Mesaed Al Muraikhi and Abdulla Mohammad Al Dosary finished second with 2547.

Singles gold medalist, Tran Hoang Khoi partnered Tan Dat Nguyen to take third with 2540 while the first Malaysian pair and first Kuwaiti pair rounded out the top five.

Fahad Alsaqabi and Hussain Qasem of Kuwait A set the pace in the second squad but were soon overtaken by the second Qatar A pair of Talal Ali Al Marri and Abdulrahman AL Doseri. The leader was on a roll reeling in consistently and by the fifth game, they needed 410 or more in their final game to snatch the gold from Macau.

Boy's Doubles medalists, Macau, Qatar A and Kuwait A

Talal and Abdulrahman ended in style with 436 to successfully defend the title they won at last year's championship in Doha with 2613. Talal totaled 1370 with his team-mate adding 1243. Macau settled for the silver while the Kuwaiti pair fell short by 22 pins to topple Macau to earn the bronze medal with 2563. The first Qatari pair slipped down to fourth followed by the Vietnamese pair in fifth.

In the girl's division, debutants Tavia Wong Tsz Ching and Law Wai Ching of Hong Kong, China had topped Squad 1 with 2267 ahead of Singapore's first pair of Rachel Foo Shi Ern and Shannon Lee Hyi En in second with 2263. Singles silver medalist, Sharifa Askander and Kadi Saleh finished third with 2116.

In the second squad, the second Chinese Taipei A pair and second Chinese Taipei B pair made the early running in first and second right up to the fourth game. The second Malaysian pair of Nur Syahira Amani and Helena Bte Jamal leapfrog up to second after a superb 394 in the fifth game to move into the lead.

All the Malaysians needed was 390 or more to topple Squad 1 leader, Hong Kong for the gold. They ended brilliantly with 426 to snatch victory with 2304. Hong Kong had look good for the gold but were happy to come away with the silver.

The first Singapore pair of Foo and Lee held on to third to earn the bronze medal while second Chinese Taipei A pair missed the podium after finishing fourth with 2245.

Mr Agus Muhammad Bahron, President of PBI was on hand to present the medals to the winners held immediately after the completion of the Doubles second squad. The Team of Four, over two blocks of three games each will be contested on August 26 and 27.

The top 16 boys and top 16 girls based on their All Events standings (18 games) will qualify for the Matchplay Round-Robin Masters Finals, over 8 games in the first block on August 28 and 7 games plus a position round match in the second block on August 29. The top 3 boys and top 3 girls based on their total pinfalls plus bonuses will proceed to the Stepladder shootout finals.
