Yancheng wins third gold

7th November, Yancheng: Peng Rui won host city Yancheng's third gold medal at the 31st Asian Intercity Bowling Championships with victory in the Women's division Singles with the silver going to Chinese Taichung and the bronze to Paranaque.

Tang Ya-Chun of Chinese Taichung set the pace with 216 in her opening game, just one pin ahead of Paranaque's Anne Marie Kiac and Wuhan's Liu Lian tieing in second and Koh Yang-Rye of Jeju, Korea in third.

Kiac added a splendid 226 in her second game to take over the lead while Tang slipped 14 pins behind the Filipina. Goh remained in third after the Korean knocked down 211. Kiac remained in the lead with a 193 in her third game with Goh moving up to second and Tang dropping down to third.

Peng Rui, who had a modest start with 202, stumbled to a lowly 159 in the second game but recovered with 238 in the third and then another sizzling 248 to leapfrog into the lead. The Korean also improved to take up second while Kiac was third.

The leader went on to end the event with 225 and 201 to win Yancheng's third gold medal with 1273. Tang bounced back brilliantly with 226 and 245 in her last two games to clinch the silver medal with 1249 while Kiac took the bronze medal with 1205.

Koh missed the podium finishing fourth with 1182 while Li Qin rounded out the top five with 1166. Competition will resume with the Men's Senior division Singles event tomorrow morning. The Men's division and the Women's Senior division will contest the Doubles event in two squads.

The Women's division and the Men's Senior division Doubles will be staged on November 9. The Team of 4 event for all divisions will be held over two days on November 10 and 11 culminating to the Masters Finals on November 11 and 12.
