Hong Kong bowler takes maiden victory

12th April, Bahrain: Hong Kong's Eric Tseng finally won his first tour title when he easily defeated challenger, Yousif Falah of Bahrain, 235-191 in the finals of the ABF Tour Bahrain leg at Fun Land Bowling Center on Sunday.

Eric Tseng had a great start during the title match against challenger, Yousif Falah of Bahrain with a double strike while the lanky Bahraini only managed a spare and a strike. The Hong Kong national bowler picked up his pace with a turkey frame four and never looked back.

A costly miss by Yousif in the fourth frame allowed Tseng to build up an unssailable lead as he failed to repeat the form he showed earlier in the semi-final and the preliminary two rounds of knockout matches.

Tseng ended with 235 to Yousif's 191 to take his maiden tour title making amends for finishing second in the Kuwait leg two weeks ago.

"I knew I had a good chance to win this time if I can keep my nerves," said the 21-year-old Tseng. "I wasted an opportunity in the Kuwait leg and I wasn't going to waste this one. I made sure I made good my deliveries."

Tseng cruised to the finals by ousting second Bahraini opponent, Mohamed Sultan, 258-181 in the second semi-final match. He had beaten Ahmed Al-Bastaki of Bahrain, 226-210 in the second round and Mubarak Al-Muraikhi of Qatar, 259-226 in Round 1.

The runnerup, Yousif Falah reached the finals after he defeated Ahmed A. Jabber in an all-Bahraini semi-final, 268-237. But Yousif had a hard fought Round 2 match with Kuwait's Basil Al-Anzi after the duo tied at 247 each with the 9th and 10th frame to break the tie.

Yousif shot 48 while Basil missed his pin 10 spare to crash out with 47. Yousif, however, posted the highest game of the tour when he had another tough game against UAE's Shaker Al-Hassan, winning with 288 against 279.

Topseed and first runnerup of the preceeding the 8th Kingdom of Bahrain Open, Mohammed Kamel of Kuwait crashed out after losing to
