Macau denies Hong Kong a double

4th July, Macau: Macau national youth, Patricia Hui Tong denied Hong Kong a double with a surprise victory in the finals to capture the ABF Tour Macau leg Women's title at COTAI Bowling Centre on Sunday.

Patricia Hui Tong, who finished as first runner-up in the preceeding Macau China Open Youth Masters, finally captured her first-ever international crown after she defeated favourite, Vanessa Fung of Hong Kong, 243-177 in the finals.

The 17-year student had earlier edged compatriot, Filomena Choi, 212-200 in the all-Macau semifinals to advance into the finals. Patricia also ousted another favourite and 2007 ABF Tour TOC winner, Tang Joh Six of Malaysia, 182-150 in Round 2.

"The match was so close that I didn't want to think about the scores but just concentrated on the game," said the delighted Patricia Hui after the match. "I really only knew that I could win the match after the ninth frame.

Vanessa, who edged team-mate Milki Ng, 194-192 in Round 2 before dispatching ex-Malaysia national, Lai Kin Ngoh, 241-205 in the other semi-final before going down to the champion in the finals.


In the men's division, Joshua Chow upset his more experience team-mate, Eric Tseng, 239-217 to win his first-ever international title in the all-Hong Kong finals. Joshua also ousted another team-mate and firm favourite, Wu Siu Hong, 202-177 in the semi-finals earlier.

Eric Tseng also eliminated team-mate Michael Mak, 254-222 in the another all-Hong Kong semi-finals to earn a crack at the title. Tseng secured th semi-final spot after he beat Surasak Manuwong of Thailand, 227-180 in the second round.

Mak gave Hong Kong their second semi-final spot knocking out China's Zhu Jun He, 266-209 in his round 2 encounter while Wu booked his semi-final place with victory over Indonesia's Ryan Lalisang, 224-173.

Chow earned Hong Kong's fourth semi-final spot by easily defeating Macau's Lok Hei Ieong, 210-146 before going on to capture the coveted title.
