Singaporean snatches Squad C pole

6th May, Taoyuan: Png Yao Xian of Singapore snatched pole position of Squad C in the first block of five games qualifying rounds of the 3rd Formosa International Bowling Classic 2026 from two Taiwanese, Tsai Yu Che and Lan Shao Kang in second and third.

Tsai Yu Lun of Chinese Taipei had a great start with 261 in his opening game to lead compatriot, Lan Shao Kang by 33 pins in second while Tang Lam Hei of Hong Kong, China was third, just one pin further away. Tang added a superb 246 in the second game to take over the lead.

Lan continued to trail in second, 16 pins adrift followed by Ysai Yu Che in third. Png took over the lead briefly after the third game but has to share the lead with Tsai after the fourth game as Lan slipped to third.

The Singaporean ended the block the strongest with 212 for a total of 1122 pinfalls. Tsai settled for second with 1120, just two pins away. Lan finished third with 1118.


Png Yao Xian claiming Squad C pole position

Squad A leader, Jason Leung of Hong Kong, China remained firmly in the lead with 1297. Chen Te Shaun of Chinese Taipei and Squad B leader, Jeon Hae Min of Korea tied second overall with 1198. Dylan Lam of Hong Kong, China took fourth with 1171 while Yoshinao Shimoji of Japan rounded out the top five.

Png's effort of 1122 only put him in the top ten. Squad D, the last squad of Block 1, will end the first day of qualifying rounds later this evening at 9:00pm local time. Players will bowl two additional blocks of 5 games qualifying round each in the next two days.
