Kuwaiti sets early pace

16th January, Muscat: 2025 IBF World Cup Team bronze medalist, Aseel Alroomi of Kuwait set the early qualifying pace of the Muscat International Open Bowling Championships 2026 underway at Al Seeb Bowling Center by topping the overall standings.

The 30-year-old Kuwaiti shot three 3-game series of 728, 673 and 688 to go top of the table with a total of 2089. Aseel will be hoping to make amends after a poor showing during the 2025 IBF World Championships which ended in Hong Kong, China on December with a better results here in Muscat.

The top Omani qualifier was Khalid Issa, who amassed a 9-game aggregate of 2054 and sharing second spot with fellow-countrymen, Musaab Aladwi. Hasan Alkharousi of Oman took fourth position with 2008. The top 2 highest qualifiers and the top 2 highest Omani qualifiers will automatically advance to Round 3 Final.

Mohammed Al Saud of Saudi Arabia headed qualifiers positioned 5 to 30 in fifth position with a total of 1982 ahead of Talal Almarri of Qatar in sixth with 1982. Abdulmajeed Alaslani of Squadi Arabia, Abdullah Almarri of Bahrain, Naif Oqab of UAE and Mesaed Almuraikhi fo Qatar rounded out the top 10.

The current cut, with two more days of qualifying rounds left, went to Hussain Al Suwaidi of UAE with a total of 1870, or 70 over. This cut will likely be around 120 or 130 over by the end of January 18.

Qualifiers positioned 5 to 30 along with the top 2 qualifiers from the one-game Desperado squad will make the cut for Round 2 Semi-finals over 6 games. The top 12 at the end of the Semi-finals will be joined by the four seeded qualifiers from the general standings for another 8 games.

The top 5 at the end of the Final will proceed to the Stepladder Shootout finals. The third-seed, fourth-seed and fifth-seed will square off over one match. The winner of the first match will advance to face the second-seed, again over one match.

The winner of the second match will face the top-seed over one match to determine this year's champion. The top prize for the champion is 8,500 Omani riyal (approx. US$22,000) with 4,300 riyal to the first runner-up and 3,000 riyal to the second runner-up.
