Malaysian national tops second squad

19th December, Seberang Prai: 2012 champion, Syafiq Ridhwan of Malaysian National Podium, topped the second squad of the Block 1 qualifying rounds in the 50th Penang Pesta International Bowling Championships ahead of Nur Syazwani Sahar of Malaysia in second and Rattanapat Chatchaisiri of Thailand third.

Chatchaisiri, who won the 48th Thailand Open Men's Grade B title, started off with a scintillating 277 in his opening game to lead Korea's Kim Leehyun of CNTU by 40 pins and Malaysia's Mohammad Zharfan of Abahcaca in third with 237.

The Thai continued to set a blistering pace with 221 and 213 in his second and third games. Alisha Iman Cheong of Kuala Lumpur shot a sizzling 269 to move into second spot after her 192 opener. Ridhwan kept pace in third with three consistent games of 230, 235 and 237.

Chatchaisiri kept his lead despite managing 204 in the fourth game. 2024 Asian Championships Doubles bronze medalist, Nur Syazwani moved into second spot, just two pins behind the Thai. Indonesia's Hardy Rachmadian and Ridhwan was fourth and fifth.


Block 1 Squad B Top 3, Nur Syazwani Sahar, Syafiq Ridhwan and Rattanapat Chatchaisiri

Ridhwan ended the first block with 238 and 223 to take the squad with 1371. Nur Syazwani finished second with 1358 while Chatchaisiri settled for third position with 1338. Squad A leader, Han Seong Min remained unchallenged to lead the first block with 1389 from two squads combined.

Ridhwan finished second overall and Nur Syazwani third. Ethan Damien Goh of ABAS/Malaysia, who was second in Squad A, ended in fourth position with 1353 while Chatchaisiri rounded out the top five.

Squad A will resume with their second block of six games tomorrow morning followed by Squad B in the afternoon. The top 40 from the combined scores of both squads after the second block will qualify Masters Finals on December 21.
