Singapore, Hong Kong tops Doubles Squad 2

8th July, Bangkok: Arianne Tay and Colleen Pee of Singapore overhauled Squad 1 leader, Korea to go top of the Girl's Doubles event at the 21st Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships while Hong Kong took the boy's division.

Malaysia's Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee and Nur Harizah Ramli got off the block with 451 to lead Singles silver medallist, Tay and Pee by 41 pins. Singles bronze Hannah Clark and Emily Hart of Australia was third, a further 5 pins away.

Singapore took over the running after adding a splendid 461 in their second game. Malaysia responded with a respectable 401 but slipped behind Singapore by 19 pins with Australia drifting further away in third.

Singapore traded the lead with Malaysia for the next two games before Tay and Pee ended the squad with a strong 434 to seal top spot with 2488 as well as out-scored Squad 1 leader, Korea by 131 pins.

Adelia and Nur Hazirah finished second with 2443 and also beat Korea by 86 pins while Paek Yedam and Oh Hyunji settled for third overall after two squads with 2357.

In the boy's division, Singles gold medallist, Lan Shao Kang of Chinese Taipei partnering Cheng Shao Hua made the running in the first two games before handing the lead over to Qatar's Hassan Al Muraikhi and Ibrahim Al Moraikhi.

Qatar's lead last just one game before Australia's Jordan Harrod and Blake Walsh took over top spot after the fourth game. Hong Kong's Jeremy Wong and Amen Yuen, who were gradually makine up grounds after a slow start, reeled in 423 and 426 in their last two games to snatch the lead with 2372.

Unfortunately, their total only landed them fourth overall from two squads combined. Squad 1 leader of Baek Seungwoo and Park Soonwan of Korea remained the leader with 2600 followed by Muhammad Danial Abu Samah and Syabil-Azam Syamsul-Azam of Malaysia in second with 2511.

March Dylan Custodio and Zach Ramin of Philippines held on to third position with 2439, 67 pins ahead of Hong Kong. The third and final Doubles squad will take to the lanes at 1.30pm local time. The top 3 girls pairs and top 3 boys pairs will be declared the medal winners.

Competition will shift to the Team of 4 which will be contested over two blocks of 3 games on July 9 and 10. The top 16 girls and top 16 boys based on their All-Events standings after 18 games will qualifiy for the Round-Robin Masters finals to be staged on July 11 and 12.
