Johorean tops two divisions in Squad C

7th September, Kuching: Muhd Syafiq B Kamal Shahren of Johor, Malaysia topped all three divisions in Squad C first block qualifying round of the Sarawak International Open Bowling Championships 2019 at Sarawak Megalanes.

Muhd Syafiq shot a moderate opening game of 212 to lead the squad followed by compatriot, Sushanor Sihanor in second. Sarawakians Tan Chien Nan and Mohd Hariq Sahli registered 203 and 200 to trail in third and fourth.

The leader added 215 and 201 in the second and third games before picking up his pace with two scorching games of 248 and 257 to end the block with 1173 and an impressive average of 234.6. Ex-national youth, Noor Afizal Azizan of Negeri Sembilan did well to keep pace to finish second with 1056.

Mohd Shafizul B Suhaimi of Malaysia took third spot with 1049 while Mohd Haziq Shali and Muhammad Mubin Murzany rounded out the top 5 with 1047 and 1026 respectively. Mohd Syafiq also topped the Classified division for which he had registered for with 1183.

Tan finished second to Muhd Syafiq with 1106 and Noor Afizal took third spot with 1096. Izz Naqiuddin Putera of Malaysia snatched top spot of the Youth 25 & Under division with a stunning fifth and final game of 267 for a total of 1116.

Mohamad Zaref Syahmi finished second with 1078 and Siti Nurnadia Binti Ismail took third spot with 1063. Megat Zaqrul Haiqal and Siti Azfariesya Binti Omar completed the top 5 with 1057 and 1047 respectively.

The fourth and final squad of the first block will be contested after lane maintenance. There will be a "Joker" Squad in which participants will bowl two games for an opportunity to replace the two lowest games in their first block.

Bowlers will resume with their second block of 5 games tomorrow. The top 60 with the highest pinfalls from 10 games bowled in their respective divisions will qualify for their Masters finals on September 9 and 10.
