Czech Republic, Malaysia shares Masters glory

14th February, Doha: Two-gold medalist, Jaroslav Zapletal of Czech Republic and Intan Nor Edryana of Malaysia shared the Masters glory at the concluding 14th International Friendship Youth Bowling Championship 2026 with victory in the Boy's and Girl's Masters final.

Zapletal lost rolled the tournament's first perfect game against second-seed, Koki Fukushima of Japan to win the first match of the best-of-3 Boy's final. The Japanese force the final into a deciding third match after Fukushima bear the Czech, 237-207 in the second match.

The third match was an extremely closed-fought decider as both reached the seventh frame with only one pin separating the duo. Then disaster struck as Fukushima encountered a big 6-pin split in his final frame. Zapletal went on win, 232-218 to capture his third gold.

The champion had defeated fourth-seed, Eskil Lind of Sweden, 2-1 in the first semi-final match to advance to the final. Fukushima ousted third-seed, Adam Haxa of Czech Republic, 2-1 in the other semi to face Zapletal. Haxa beat Lind, 2-0 in the third and fourth place playoff to finish third while Lind settled for fourth position. Both were awarded a bronze medal each.

Meanwhile in the girl's division, Team gold medalist, Intan Nor Edryana narrowly defeated Singles silver medalist, Kiri Watanabe of Japan, 2-1 to win Malaysia's third gold medal. The Malaysian lost the first match 217-256 but was lucky to take the second match with a lowly 157-153.

The third and deciding match which saw Edryana prevailing to win the tie, 221-215 and the her an individual gold medal. Watanabe, who sailed past top-seed, Lim Shi Eng of Singapore, 2-0 in the first semi-final match while the champion edged a second Singaporean, Shirlene Wong Xue Lin, 2-1 in the other semi.

Lim defeated Wong, 2-0 in the all-Singapore third and fourth place playoff to finish third with Wong ending in fourth position. Both earned a bronze medal each.

Malaysia emerged as the overall Girls champion with a medal haul of 3-0-3 followed by Singapore in second with 2-0-3 and Japan third with 0-2-3.team Czech Republic emerged the overall boys champion with a haul of 3-1-2 with Puerto Rico taking second spot with 0-1-1. Qatar finished third with 1-0-1.

A total of 64 boys and 48 girls from 12 countries competed in the four-events, namely Singles, Doubles, Team and Masters Finals from 10th to 14th December. Mr Abdulla Al-Qattan, President of QBF was on hand to present the medals to the Masters winners.
