Taiwanese, Korean clinches Masters Gold |
29th June, Hong Kong: Lin Yi-Chien clinched the Men's Masters Gold for Chinese Taipei to emerge as Overall Champion in the 21st East Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship while Kim Yang-Hee captured Korea's second Gold medal in the Women's division. |

Team Gold medalist and third-seed, Lin Yi-Chien defeated top-seed, Wang Ying Jun of China, 190-180 in the first game and then went on to take the second match, 199-166 for a 389-346 2-game total pinfalls in the final stepladder match to give Chinese Taipei their fourth Gold that allowed them to tie with China on 4 Gold medals.
Despite finishing top-seed, Wang was unable to stop Lin's charge in the crucial finals and had to settle for the Silver. The champion had earlier outclassed teammate, Ho Chin-Ming, 256-188 for a crack at the title. However, it was Ho's bronze medal that clinch the overall champion with one bronze medal more than China.

In the all-Korean stepladder finals of the women's division, top-seed, Kim Yang-Hee defeated teammate, Ka Yun-Mi, 385-363 over the 2-game matches to win Korea's second Gold medal. Ka had earlier edged Chinese Taipei's Chien Hsiu-Lan, 184-183 before loosing to Kim.
Women's World Championship Masters Gold medalist and first block leader, Yang Suiling of China could not repeat the form she showed the day before to end up in fourth and missing the cut for the stepladder finals.
Chinese Taipei emerged the overall champion with 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 5 Bronze medals, just 1 bronze medal more than the runner-up, China. Japan edged Korea for third spot with 2 Gold and 2 Silver medals while Korea finished fourth with 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. |

China did however emerged the Men's overall champion with 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medal. Host country, Hong Kong could not capitalise on home ground advantage and took fifth spot with 3 Silver and 1 Bronze medal..

China, Chinese Taipei challenges for honours |
28th June, Hong Kong: World Championship Masters Gold medalist, Yang Suiling of China stepped up in her performance to top the first block of the Women's Masters finals while Ho Chin-Ming led a Chinese Taipei 1-2 finish in the Men's division. |

After a dismal display in the earlier events finishing fifth in both the Singles and Doubles, seventh in the Trios and a silver medal in the Team of Five event, Yang began to find her form to lead the 8-game first block finals with 1761. She won a total of six matches with lines of 193, 244, 199, 243, 189, 236, 224 and 173 for a 32-pin lead.
Hot on her heels were Korea's Kim Yang-Hee and Ka Yun-Mi finishing second and third with 1729 and 1698 followed by Yang's teammate, Xu Lan in fourth position with 1695. The Chinese Taipei's best performer was Wang Ya-Ying managing only sixth with 1663, 19 pins behind Hong Kong's Joey Yip in fifth with 1682.

Meanwhile, Ho Chin-Ming went all out to ensure that a Gold medal will allow the Chinese Taipei to clinch the overall champions title. The Trios bronze medalist amassed a total of 1790 winning seven out of the 8-game round-robin matchplay finals.
His teammate, Lin Yi-Chien did well to starve off China's challenges by taking second spot with 1782, just 8 pins adrift. Wang Ying Jun and triple Gold medalist, He Jian followed closely in third and fourth position with 1769 and 1711 respectively.
Japan's Yoshinao Masatoki and All Events Silver medalist, Wu Siu Hong of Hong Kong rounded up the top 6 in fifth and sixth positions on totals of 1701 and 1663. The top 3 at the end of another 8-game block tomorrow will make the cut for the stepladder finals. |

27th June, Hong Kong: Chinese Taipei swept the both the Women's and Men's Team event of the 21st East Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship with two Gold medals and take the overall lead in the medal tally on Day 4 at Mei Foo Super Fun Bowl Tuesday evening. |

Chien Hsiu-Lan, Chu Yu-Chieh (replaced by Jen Yu-Nan in the second block), Hsu Chun-Yi, Wang Ya-Ying and Lin Shu-Chun amassed a team total of 5844 to give Chinese Taipei their second Gold medal. The Taiwanese who trailed the China by just 15 pins in the first block, posted 942, 1028 and 997 in the second block for a well deserved victory.
China's Chen Shu Xian, Fan Juan Juan (replacing Liao Pei Shan in the second block), Xu Lan, Yang Suiling and Zhang Chun Li were overcomed by the challenge from the Taiwanese to settle for the Silver medal with 5782.
Korea's Hong Su-Yeon, Im A-Rang (replaced by Lee Hyun Jung in the second block), Ka Yun-Mi, Kim Yang-Hee and Lee Mi-Jin put in a late charge to snatch the bronze medal with 5669, just 4 pins ahead of the Japanese in fourth. |

Singles Gold medalist, Ayano Katai won her second gold medal after she topped the Women's All Events with 24-game total of 4946. Chinese Taipei's Wang Ya-Ying and Lin Shu-Chun settled for the silver and bronze medal with 4813 and 4788 respectively.

Chinese Taipei swept the Team event when first block leader, Chen Chun-Chien (alternating with Hung Kun-Yi in the second block), Cheng Feng-Yu, Ho Chin-Ming, Lin Yi-Chien and Wang Tien-Fu cruised home a comfortable winner to capture their third Gold medal.
Hong Kong, who lost a chance to win a medal in the Trios event earlier, made amends by winning the Silver medal. Cyrus Cheung, Rocky Hui, Eric Tseng (replacing Wicky Yeung in the second block), Wu Siu Hong, and Daniel Yiu amassed a total of 5978 for second spot.
China's Feng Xiao Bing, He Jian, Jia Ling, Wang Bing and Wang Ying Jun overtook Japan to claim the bronze medal with a team total of 5954, 101 pins ahead. Japan settled for fourth while the Koreans finished fifth with 5721. |

Undoubtedly, the star of the championship is China's He Jian when he pipped local favourite, Wu Siu Hong by 1 pin to claim the Men's All Events gold and his third in the competition. Wu settled for the silver with 5043 while Chinese Taipei's Wang Tien-Fu took the bronze.
Despite Chinese Taipei's domination in the Team event, they still trailed China in the Overall Medal Tally. He Jian's third Gold in the championship gave China the lead with 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze medals. Chinese Taipei is second with 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.
The top 16 men and women in the All Events standings made the cut for the Masters finals which will be played over two blocks of 8 games in two different oiling condition on 28th and 29th June.

27th June, Hong Kong: Kim Yang-Hee, Ka Yun-Mi and Lee Mi-Jin captured Korea's first Gold medal in the 21st East Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship in the Women's Trios event while China bagged their third Gold in the Men's Trios at the end of the second block. |

The Korean trio, who led the first block of 3 games over the short oil condition yesterday, maintained their lead to end the second block over long oil condition to capture the Women's Trios Gold with a total of 3573.
Kim posted 1202, Ka scored 1162 while Singles Bronze medalist and anchorwomen, Lee Mi-Jin contributed 1209 to give the Koreans their first gold in the championship after 3 days of instense competition.
The Chinese Taipei's trio of Chu Yu-Chieh, Lin Shu-Chun and Jen Yu-Nan, who was second in the first block, overtook the Chinese to claim the silver medal with 3561 while China's Liao Peishan, Zhang Chunli and Chen Shuxian settled for the bronze medal with a teal total of 3532. |

Host nation, Hong Kong's hope of winning their first Gold medal was dashed when the trio of Cyrus Cheung, Rocky Hui and Wu Siu Hong could not maintain their momentum and was unlucky to drop to fourth and missing out on a medal.
China's Wang Bin with Doubles Gold medalist, Wang Ying Jun and He Jian overtook the leaders, Hong Kong in the final game to claim their third Gold medal in the competition with a total of 3742. The win has given Wang Ying Jun his second gold and He Jian his third.
Japan's Tomoyuki Sasaki, Yoshinao Masatoki and Masaru Ito, who was second in the first block, managed to maintain second spot to win the silver medal with a total of 3679. Hong Kong took fourth place with 3581, 65 pins from third. |

He Jian regained pole position in the Men's All Events after 21 games on a total of 4440 with Hong Kong's Wu Siu Hong in second with 4397 and Chinese Taipei's Wang Tien Fu third with 4369. Ayano Katai of Japan continued to occupy pole in the Women's All Events with 4372.
China topped the Overall Medal tally with 3 Gold and 2 Bronz medals followed by Chinese Taipei in second with 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals while Japan is third with 1 Gold and 2 Silver medals.
The second block of the Team of 5 event will be contested later today and the top 16 men and women based on their All Events standings will make the cut for the Masters Finals which will be held 28th and 29th June.

Hong Kong looks set for first Gold |
26th June, Hong Kong: Hong Kong looked set to scoring their first Gold medal as Cyrus Cheung, Rocky Hui and Wu Siu Hong topped the Men's Trios first block of the 21st East Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship at Mei Foo Super Fun Bowl Monday morning. |

When the men took to the lanes on Day 3 of the competition for the first block of 3 games in the Trios event over short oil condition, Hong Kong's Cyrus Cheung, Rocky Hui and Wu Siu Hong immedaitely set a cracking pace to lead by just 4 pins over Japan with a superb 654 team total.
But a 629 in the second game saw the trio dropping to third behind China, who posted 703 to take over the lead with Japan maintaining second. But a strong 627 in the third game allowed Cheung, Hui and Wu to regain the lead at the end of the first block to top the field with 1910.

Korea, whose best effort so far was a bronze medal in the Women's Singles, put in a better performance to top the field of the Women's Trios event after the first block ended. Kim Yang-Hee, Ka Yun-Mi and Lee Mi-Jin amassed 1883 to lead by 34 pins over second-placed, China.
Liao Peishan, Zhang Chunli and Chen Shuxian totaled 1849 to take up second spot, a further 37 pins ahead of Chinese Taipei's Chu Yu-Chieh, Lin Shu-Chun and Jen Yu-Nan in third with 1846. Chinese Taipei's other trio did well to finish fourth with 1744.
China's Wang Ying Jin continued to top the Men's All Events after 15 games with 3144 followed by teammate, and Singles Gold medalist, He Jian in second with 3137 and Chinese Taipei's Wang Tien-Fu third with 3085.
A superb 664 from Wang Ya-Ying saw the Taiwanese sharing the lead in the Women's All Events table with Japan's Ayano Katai on 3107. China's Chen Shuxian trailed in third with 3082. The men and wome will play their first block of Team event over long oil condition later today.

A Convincing victory for China |
25th June, Hong Kong: Wang Ying Jun and He Jian put up another superb performance for a convincing victory in the Men's Doubles event of the 21st East Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship Sunday afternoon to give China its second Gold medal. |

Wang Ying Jun, partnering Singles Gold medalist, He Jian, literally led from start to finish in the 6-game Doubles event over the short oil condition for a comfortable win with a team total of 2522. Wang amassed 1312 to He Jian's moderate 1210 to claim the Gold medal, 26 pins ahead.
Chinese Taipei's pair of Lin Yi-Chien and Cheng Fang-Yu, who was third before the final game, snatched the silver medal with 2496 from teammates, Wang Tien-Fu and Hung Kun-Yi. Wang and Hung was leading the Chinese by 23 pins going into the final game posted a poor 365 to hand the victory away.
Wang and Hung settled for the bronze medal with a team total of 2468, ahead of the Korean pair of Gang Yu-Chan and Park Min-Su in fourth with 2396. The two local pairs of Rocky Hui-Daniel Yiu and Cyrus Cheung-Wu Siu Hong ended a dismal 9th and 10th positions. |

Chinese Taipei had earlier captured their first Gold medal when Chien Hsiu-Lan and Wang Ya-Ting edged Hong Kong's Sylvia Kong and Joey Yip for the Women's Doubles gold medal by 7 pins. Kong and Yip had a 59 pins lead over their nearest opponent before the final game but a disasterous 352 by the duo saw them handling the gold to the Taiwanese.
Chien and Wang amassed 2341 in the 6-game event while Hong Kong ended the day with 2334. China's Fan Juanjuan and Zhang Chunli almost took away the silver from Hong Kong finishing third, just 3 pins adrift on 2331 for the bronze instead.

A 1312 in the doubles moved Wang Ying-Jun of Chinese Taipei to the top of the men's All Events table with 2508 with two gold medalist, He Jian in second with 2494 while Hong Kong's Rocky Hui took third spot with 2461.

China, Japan off to a great start |
24th June, Hong Kong: China and Japan got off to a great start with He Jian and Ayano Katai winning the Men's and Women's Singles Gold in the 21st East Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship underway at Mei Foo Super Fun Bowl. |

As the men took to the lanes for the first event of the championship Saturday morning over the long oil condition, the Japanese pair of Daiki Ikeda and Tomoyuki Sasaki set a cracking pace with 273 and 265 to lead the field of 39 men. Ikeda continued to lead up to the halfway mark when Cyrus Cheung and Rocky mounted a local challenge to take over the lead.
Both Hui and Cheung looked set to give Hong Kong a superb start to the championship after maintaining their positions into the fourth and fifth game while China's He Jian steadily moved into third to just trail the lead Cheung by 7 pins.
He Jian posted 214 to edge the strong finishing of Ikeda in the final game to capture China's first Gold medal with an eventual total of 1284, just 3 pins ahead of Ikeda who totaled 1281 for the silver. Hui settled for the bronze with 1280 while Macau's Choi Lo Fai stormed home for fourth. |

Japan made amends when Ayano Katai won the Women's Singles Gold with an impressive 1333 over second-placed, Chien Hsiu-Lan of Chinese Taipei settling for the silver with 1304. Pace-setter, Lee Mi-Jin of Korea finished third for the bronze medal with 1260.
Janet Lam gave Hong Kong some hope of scoring their first gold when she led for two games but soon handed the lead to Lee Mi-Jin at the halfway mark followed closely by Katai. A superb 267 in the fifth game saw Chien moving up to second to narrow the gap to just 15 pins.
But a poor 167 in the final game by the Taiwanese allowed Katai to claim the Gold with 233 final game with Chien settling for second. ABF Tour Malaysia leg champion, Vanessa Fung made a late charge in the last two games but fell short of winning a medal to finish fourth with 1260. |

Colorful tradition marks opening |
23rd June, Hong Kong: A colorful and traditional ceremony marked the opening of the 21st East Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship graced by Honourable Timothy Fok, IOC Member and Hong Kong NOC President at Mei Foo Super Fun Bowl Friday evening. |

A total of 39 men and 38 women from seven countries paraded in front of a packed house with Guest of Honour, the Honourable Timothy Fok, IOC Member and Hong Kong NOC President. Amongst those present were Mr Chi Joong Sup, President of the East Asian Tenpin Bowling Council, Mr Kyohei Akagi, Honorary Life President of World Tenpin Bowling Association, Dr Danny Santos, FIQ Secretary General and dignitaries.
The Organising Chairperson and Honorary Life President of the Asian Bowling Federation, Mrs Vivien Fung got the official opening ceremony underway with her welcome address followed by a speech by Honourable Timothy Fok.

In her role as President of the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress, Mrs Fung thanked the Leisure & Cultural Services Department, Sports Federation & Olympic Council for their continuous support, and the contribution by the commercial sector and individuals to the successful staging of the 21st East Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship.
The lion dance was performed by Luk Chi Fu Martial Art Association. Immediately after the opening, the guests, participants and team officials were invited to a Welcome Reception at the Royal Pacific Hotel & Towers for light cocktail.
The first competition event - the Singles will be played on Saturday June 24 followed by Doubles, Trios and Team events on June 25, 26 and 27. The top 16 Men and 16 Women based on their All Events total from the Singles, Doubles and Teams (18 games) will qualify for the Masters Finals on June 28 and 29. |
