17th April, Petaling Jaya: Newcomer and Youth Open Masters second runner-up, Noel Hagland Torgersen of Sweden and Nur Irdina of Singapore took the Men's Open and Women's Open Masters qualifying lead of the 43rd Malaysian International Open Bowling Championship on Thursday.

Torgersen, son of 1994 QubicaAMF World Cup champion, Tore Torgesen, rolled 726 and 721 three-game series to take the lead of the Men's Open qualifying leaderboard with an aggregate of 1447. The 17-year-old, who finished third in the Youth Open Masters finals three days ago, will be hoping to do well in his first senior attempt.

Jordan Dinham of Australia finished second to Torgersen with 1446, just one pin off the leader. Ian Tay of Singapore impressed with a third-place finish with 1423 while Nu'Man Syahmi Bin Yusri of Singapore occupied fourth with 1418.

Macau's Lee Tak Man missed the top four bracket by a single pin to take up fifth spot with 1417. Overnight leader in the local pool, Tsen Fan Yew of Malaysia, remained in the lead with 1485 followed by fellow-Sarawakian, Chong Jun Foo in second with 1475.

Last Year's first runner-up, Syafiq Ridhwan of Malaysian National Podium Squad finished third with 1457 while reigning Malaysian National champion, Muhammad Syazirol Shamsuddin improved to clinch fourth position with 1452.

The top 4 local and top 4 overseas qualifiers will earn a bye and skip Round 1 Finals on April 19. Qualifiers positioned 5 to 12 in both the local and overseas pool along with qualifiers positioned 1 to 16 in the Mixed Pool and 3 qualifiers from the Desperado Squad will contest Round 1 Finals over 8 games.

Meanwhile in the Women's Open division, Nur Irdina of Singapore topped the overseas pool with 1355, after a tussle for the lead with team-mate, Daphne Tan yesterday. Lara Posadas-Wong of Philippines leapfrog into second spot with 1334 after an improved 669 series.

New Hui Fen of Singapore occupied third position with 1320. Daphne Tan slipped down to fourth with 1318 while Quek Lu Yi rounded out the top five with 1308. In the local pool, Malaysian National youth, Adelia Nur Binti Irwan Syazalee became the first bowler to surpass the 800-mark with a 825 series to go top of the table with 1489.

Overnight leader and 2024 IBF World Cup Singles champion, Natasha Roslan settled for second spot with 1402. 2023 Malaysian Open champion and last year's first runner-up, Lavina Kho Jia Jie of ABAS/Sarawak took up third position with 1389.

Malaysian National squad members, Faten Najihah Bte Ahmad Faik and Quratu'ain Izdihar both missed the top bracket after sharing fourth spots with 1372.

The top 3 local and top 3 overseas qualifiers will earn a bye and skip Round 1 Finals. Qualifiers positioned 4 to 10 in both the local and overseas pool along with qualifiers positioned 1 to 10 in the Mixed Pool and top 2 from Desperado Squad will contest Round 1 Finals over 8 games.

Qualifying rounds will end tomorrow, April 18 with the last squad at 22:30hrs. A one-game Desperado Squad will be held for the top 3 Men's Open, top 2 Women's Open and top 3 Men's Graded to make the Masters Finals.
