France, USA captures coveted Team gold

5th December, Hong Kong, China: France defeated favourite, Germany 2-0 in the final to capture the Men's Team of 5 gold medal of the HKGX 2025 IBF World Championships while USA edges top-seed, Malaysia 2-1 to clinch the Women's Team of 5 gold at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium arena.

France's Gaetan Mouveroux, Maxime Dubois, Valentin Saulnier, Loick Coolen, Grégory Rius and Mike Bartaire got off to a cracking start in their first match against Germany with seven strikes-in-a-row. But the Germans rallied back with six strikes-in-a-row from frame 4.

After sparing their eighth frame, the French doubled in the ninth and tenth frames for a 264-248 win. In the second match, France took a 30=pin lead after a superb start with five strikes-in-a-row. Despite the Swedes responding with five in-a-row, France added another turkey to take the second match, 257-228 and a 2-0 victory to capture the gold medal.

France had earlier edged top-seed, Germany 2-1 in the first semi-finals to advance to the final. Swedem ousted Korea, 2-1 in the second semi-finals to face France in the final.

In the women's Team of 5 final, USA again denied their arch-rival Malaysia their glory. Malaysia edged USA 191-179 in the first match but took a heavy loss in the second match, 159-200 to set up a third deciding match.

Bryanna Cote, Jillian Martin, Lauren Russo, Julia Bond, Breanna Clemmer and Shannon Pluhowsky of Team USA and Malaysia had decent start in their third match but it was Malaysia who first encountered a split in the fifth frame.

Both teams just could not string together any double strikes but USA kept their cool and end the match cleanly and take victory, 199-185 to win the gold medal. Malaysia defeated fourth-seed, Japan 2-0 in the first semi-finals to advance to the final.

The Americans had to work hard for their spot in the final when they lost to Korea, 234-257 in the first match but fought back to take the second match, 221-151. The Koreans struggled big time as USA won the third match, 212-180..

Singles and Doubles gold medalist, Essi Pakarinen of Finland topped the Women's All Events standings with 17 points to win her third gold medal of the championships. Shannon Pluhowsky of USA took home the silver with 22 points and Shayna Ng of Singapore earned the bronze with 23 points.

Germany's James Blomberg won Sweden's third gold after topping the Men's All Events standings with 16 points, Korea's Ji Geun and Czech Republic's Lukas Jelinek earned the silver and bronze medals with 20 and 31 points respectively.

The Men's Overall Federation gold went to Sweden with 379.88 points. Denmark and Korea won the silver and bronze medals with 353.79 and 347.17 points. USA emerged as Women's Overall Federation champion and picked up the golf with 302.21 points. Singapore and Malaysia picked up the silver and bronze medals with 285.17 and 273.22 points.

His Excellency Sheikh Talal Mohammed Al-Sabah, President of IBF and Ms Vivien Lau, Organizing Chairman of the championships gave away the medals and mascots to the Team, All Events and Overall Federation medals.

168 men (28 countries) and 132 women (22 countries) competed in Singles, Doubles, Trios and 5-player Team events over the past 12 days at Top Bowl, Kai Tak Sports Park, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The next World Championships wil be hosted in Korea in 2027.
