Malaysians take over lead

29th May, Petaling Jaya: National Youth, Qurratu'ain Izdihar and 2025 IBF World Cup Team gold medalist, Ahmad Muaz took over the lead of the Women's and Men's Open qualifying standings of the Kuala Lumpur International Open Bowling Championships on Wednesday.

Qurratu'ain, who had qualified for the Youth Girls Open division in fifth position with 1299, made her attempts in the Open division and came off with style. The National youth shot 741 and 663 for a 6-game aggregate od 1404 to take over the lead of the Women's pool.

Overnight leader, Lavina Kho Jia Jie of ABAS, Sarawak slipped down to second on her 1401 total while National Pdim squad member, Faten Najihah also dropped one spot down to third with 1398. IBF World Cup bound, Adania Redzwan, Nur Hazirah Ramli, Nurul Alyssa Junaidi finished fourth to sixth positions.

Debutant, Shion Izumune of Japan and Adelia Nur took up the last two spots in the Women's pool to secure their spots in the finals as top 8 women's qualifiers.

Meanwhile, 2019 Malaysian Open champion, Ahmad Muaz improved his lowest 613 series with 724 to add to his highest series of 773 to take over the lead of the mixed pool with 1497. Overnight leader National Podium squad member, Izz Naqiuddin Putera settled for second with 1494.

Ahmad Aidil of Sunway Megalanes took third spot with 1470 after just two attempts of 773 and 697. Ching Jun Foo of Hero Bowling and 2023 Malaysian Open second runner-up, Muhammad Hazim Ali Hanafiah completed the top five with 1460 and 1453 respectively.

The top 28 qualifiers along with the top 8 from the Women's pool will make the cut for the finals on May 1. The current cut in 28th position went to Azizi Naim of Malaysia with 1296, averaging 216.00. Qualifying will continue through to May 31.

The last qualifying squad for the Youth Graded division will end today at 14:30hrs and their finals will be held at 21:00 hrs. The last qualifying squad for Youth Open division will end on May 30 at 14:30hrs and their finals will be held at 21:00hrs.
