Koreans continue impressive showing

20th December, Seberang Prai: Korean ex-international, Jang Dong Chul of Ulsan and compatriot, Jeong Jeong Yoon of Gumi City Hall took over first and third spots of Squad A after the second block qualifying at the 50th Penang Pesta International Bowling Championships.

Overnight Block 1 Squad A and overall leader, Han Seong Min of KNSU, Korea remained in the lead despite starting the second block with 178. Ethan Damien Goh of ABAS, Malaysia did not have a good start either with 194 but managed to close the gap from 36 to 13 pins.

The Korean shot 197 in the eighth game but the Malaysian downed 216 to take over the running. Jeong Jeong Yoon of Gumi City Hall, Korea shot a sizzling 278 in the eighth game after starting with 235 in her block 2 opener to leapfrog into second.

Meanwhile, ex-international Jang Dong Chul of Ulsan, Korea made his bid with 258, 246 and 238 to snatch top spot from Goh after the ninth game with Jeong and Goh sharing second spot. Jang went on to end the second block with 235 and 204 to top the squad with 1422 and a 12-game total of 2684.


Block 2 Squad A Top 3, Ethan Damien Goh, Jang Dong Chul and Jeong Jeong Yoon

Goh settled for second with 1305 and a 12-game tally of 2658. Jeong took third position with 1371 in this block and 2618 total. Han slipped down to fourth with just 1224 today and 2613 total. Ryou Ho Jin completed the top five with 2555 total.

Squad B will take to the lanes after maintenance at 2:30pm and complete their second block of six games. The top 48 with the highest total from combined squads will qualify for tomorrow's 8 games Mixed Masters Finals scheduled at 10:00am. The top 3 with the highest score at the end of the eight games will proceed to the Stepladder Shootout Finals.
